WOMEN IN SPORT CELEBRATION APRIL 19 AT CLARION UNTVERSITY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 4/9IIO
CLARION- A "Women in Sport Celebration" will
be held on Monday,
19, 6-8 p.m.
the Science and Technology Center Auditorium at Clarion University. Pepsi, Clarion University
SAAC, and ClarionUniversity's Presidential Commission for Status of Women are sponsoring the
program. The event is free and open to the campus.
The evening will begin with a slideshow presentation consisting of photos of current and hall
of fame athletes from each female sport. Following the slideshow, a panel of women will discuss
their experience and how they balanced time managemen! and athletic and academic success.
Sabatose, Student Recreation Center director and head women's tennis coach,
as a moderator
for the panel. The panel will include: Jamie Maloney , a Clarion University swimmer
tack athlete; Ashley
Crrimm, a Clarion University basketball and golf athlete; Jen
women's volteyball coach; Gie Parsons, women's basketball coach; and Wendy Snodgrass, associate
athletic director, compliance coordinator and senior woman administrator.
At 7 p.m., Dave Katis, athletic director
at Clarion University,
present "Clarion Athletic
Past and Future," followed by a presentation by Clarion University Biology Deparfinent Faculty
member, Dr. ShannonNbi; environmental microbiologst, entitled "Athletic and PeerMentoring."
The awards aeremony will commence at 7:30 p.m. Sabatose and Dr. Sandra Trejos, professor
of economics, will present awards in the categories of leadership, outstanding contribution to sport,
achievemen! courage, and spirit of sport.
Refreshments will be served. Information will be available aboutgender equity, Title D( and
Women's Coaches Academy.
