The hiring of a lawyer is an important decision that should not be based solely on advertisement. Before
you decide, ask us to send you free written information about our quali¿cations and experience.

I would like to thank everyone who contributed
so much time and energy in making Patriots Day,
September 11th, so special in honoring all who lost
their lives 10 years ago, “We Will Never Forget.”
Our Post paid tribute to the POW/MIA with an
inspiring ceremony on September 16th, by POW/
MIA Chairman Jim Orndoff.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Auxiliary Member Patti
Petterson, our travel coordinator, for her continued work and effort in all
of the fund raising travel services she provides to our post members. As
of the recent Las Vegas trip, the Post has received over $ 20,000 in funds
from the various travel events she has coordinated. On behalf of the Post,
I also want to thank everyone that has joined the travel groups for making
the travel fundraisers a great success.
On November 11th, Veterans Day Ceremony starts at 11:00 a.m., followed
by the next day’s Annual Veteran’s Boat Parade, this year honoring the
Marines. Bring your family and friends; the lounge and Tiki bar are open
to the public that day. It was our dear friend Leroy White (who recently
passed), and Don Graham’s vision to make this a day of fun by honoring
our five branches of service; “We will miss you Leroy”.
This is what I love about our Post, our members who care about each
other and the volunteers, who do so much, yet ask for nothing in return.
Sorry, but, we will be under construction once again, for a short time as
we replace the roof. We expect to have the entire project finished by mid
October.
So always remember what we are all about. We, as veterans, pass on our
legacy to both new and active veterans. With the help of organizations like
ours, we ensure that their acts of bravery and courage are never forgotten.
We will fight for their rights as our forefathers fought for ours against
terrorists, tyranny and injustice.
In closing, please be proud to show your membership card when asked,
after all, you earned it.

The summer crunch of renewals has passed. We are now
expecting a new wave of renewals for the fall period. For those
of you that have not yet sent in their renewal payment, please
do so as soon as possible. As of October, we will be in the last
3 months of the calendar year. Don’t wait until the last month
(December) to get your renewal as there may not be enough
time to process your card before they are required January 1st.

Disaster Preparedness

At this writing two months remain of the current Hurricane season, which ends
November 30th. At the end of August NOAA still predicted 14-19 storms (we have
had eight so far) and 3-5 major hurricanes. Thankfully Irene, the first, skirted our state
and Jose was not a factor however time and seasonal activity says we are far from out
of it. We all witnessed through news sources the devastation and loss of life that Irene
spewed forth, yet advanced weather analysis technology and warning systems lessened
what could have been an even worsened outcome.
The other serious weather issues for our area include tornadoes, lightening and
flooding for which there may be fewer warnings, compared to hurricanes and surges.
It is shocking to realize that there is a 100 to 1000- million volt potential build
up prior to a lightening flash and our area sees the most of these. It is up to us as
individuals to be prepared for anything, especially at this time of year.

Some of you ladies have enjoyed volunteering at the legion in the past. Well, we have a lot of ways that we need your help now. For
instance, the first Wednesday of each month the post Legion Riders host a dinner for Veterans from Bay Pines. We would love to
have you come in and make the Veterans feel welcome. We are going to have a bake sale; we need your help there. We are going to
have a fashion show, you can help out there. Every Friday we sell shirts and other articles; we need your help during those times.
You can also let those who hold an office or a chairmanship know how and when you can help them.

S.A.L. Commander’s Corner
We will be starting an award program for the S.A.L.
Members that show up to meetings and volunteer to help
with our programs. Cards are being mailed out to our local
members. If you don’t get a card come to the next meeting
(3rd Tuesday each month at 6:30pm) and get your card.
We are a large Squadron and it is time we step up and
show everyone how “GOOD” we are as well.

We are looking forward to a great
year. The Labor Day raffle, when we
raised money for the 9-11 Memorial
to be constructed in Madeira Beach,
was a great success. We are now
working on a raffle for the Veterans
Boat Parade. As always we need
volunteers to help with the ticket
sales.

Don’t forget to get your 2012 membership card. The dues
are $20.00 and the cards are ready.

We will have the “Kids Fishing
Tournament” on October 15 from 8:30am to 11:30am with
lunch after fishing. Kids 12 and under are invited to join in the
fun. There are prizes broken down by age range for the fish
caught. See the sign-up sheet for both kids and volunteers.

Lounge News
Tis the season, a majority of our winter guest will be arriving soon Great news, beginning Wednesday, October 12th we will start having

For the month of October, Bloody Mary’s are $1.50 every Sunday
until 1:00pm. Mimosa’s $1.50 all day Sunday, splash it with
cranberry, very refreshing to the taste buds.

will be many activities thru out the month. Please do what you can to support this worthy cause. Oct. 28 will be the Kids Halloween party, from
11am-1pm. There will be a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board for kids and Volunteers. Volunteers are needed for crafts and games. Nov. 18th &
19th will be our Bake Sale. This one will be a little different and there will be various gift baskets included. As always, participation is welcome and
needed, from all of our Legion Family. The Bake Sale is our major fund raiser for our Kids Christmas and Veterans Christmas Day Dinner. As the
weather starts to cool off, we will be planning some fun runs and a few Poker runs.
September 6th marked the second year of standing for the unattended Veterans at Bay Pines National Cemetery.
