Dear Parents and Guardians,
Amazingly we are into November already. I hope you had a lovely Cup Day and maybe picked a winner.
Life Education – Jan Deterring and the Life Education van are with us for the next four days. Jan will be working
with the wonderful resources of the van to assist students to have a greater understanding of healthy decision
making and habit formation. All classes will have a session with Jan.
Kinder / Prep Transition Session – our next session is this Friday from 9:00- 10:45am.
Parents Club – HPC have their next meeting this coming Monday November 7 from 9:15am in the staffroom. PS
will be primarily organising our Adidas Fun Run/Walk. All welcome.
Working Bee – Our opening of the new building takes place in just over a weeks time on Thursday November 10th.
Fingers crossed that the asphalting crew arrive here tomorrow and get their work completed. Students, staff and I
have been doing our best to clean up in preparation for the event, however there is lots to do. After school next
Monday the staff and I will be outside tidying up. We would much appreciate any help we can get from parents and
students. Hopefully you can give us a hand in some way with: weeding, whipper snipping, sweeping, cleaning down
walls of cobwebs and dust, etc.
BER Building Project Opening - Thursday November 10, 2:00pm all welcome. The formal presentation will span
40 minutes. Afternoon tea will follow. For catering and seating organisation purposes please RSVP via the office
or attached tear off slip if attending.
Remembrance Day 11/11/2011 Heyfield Cenotaph
Uniting Care Art Session – Last Friday our junior students had an environmental art session with a team from
Uniting Care down at the Wetlands. Good news all round in that our students had a fabulous time and the ladies
from Uniting Care were most delighted with the interest, efforts and manners of our students. The ladies also were
most appreciative of all those students and parents who returned after school.

Adidas School Fun Run /Walk - Parents Club with the assistance of School Council will be holding a Fun Run /
Walk coordinated by Adidas on Friday November 18, 2011. Please support as best you can the students in this
important endeavour for the school.
Bike Ed Camp
We had a very enjoyable time away. Thanks to Munjarra for looking after us so well. Congratulations to all
involved in the management of the camp. Many thanks to:
- the mums and dads who helped us to safely travel to and fro.
- Tracy Golder and Bec Sweeney for staying overnight.
- Emma and Alie for all their thorough organisation.
- the staff for covering our yard duty whilst away.
Junior school Council is selling Bandanas support ‘Canteen for Cancer’. They will go on sale from Thursday at
$4.00 each. Canteen Pens on sale for $2.00 each.
Breakfast Club runs each morning. Huge thanks to the Bendigo Bank of Heyfield for donating $500 towards the
ongoing costs of the program.
.
Active After School Communities Program (AASCP) – The program operates each Tuesday and Wednesday after
school for one hour. It is a great way for students to be active, learn to be sport social and versed. It is a free
program from the Commonwealth Government.
School Bonus Scheme – Parents, with new Preps, who are on valid Health Care cards, Pension cards and or
Foster Parents may be eligible for the one off School Start Bonus. If you have any of these cards, please come to
the office and talk with Barb or Russell.
Students of the Week – Congratulations to the following students for impressing this week:
Chloe Curran, Beau Johnson, Ainsley Judd, Will O’Connor, Luke Tyquin, Kieran Connor, Caitlyn Graham,
Cambell Penny, Charlie Page, Richard Chen, Natasha De Valle and Patrick Bass
School attendance - Please support your child to be at school unless absolutely necessary for illness, family
holidays, etc. Research shows a strong correlation (match) between consistent student absence and lower final
achievement. Research also shows that workers earn on the average an extra 10% for each extra year of
consistent education that they participate in. “It is not ok to be away!”
Educationally yours,
Russell Hodgson
Principal
Jump Rope for Heart
HPS is participating in “Jump Rope For Heart” sponsored by the Heart Foundation on Friday the 11th of
November 2011. We will not be seeking sponsorship from family and friends, rather working with the students to
develop sound fitness habits through skipping. Mrs. Bishoff would like some parent helpers to assist the teachers
with their management of the event which will see the whole school participating at the same time from 9:0010:00am. Thanking you in anticipation.
