Leaving Home, 2'30”
Alessio Rutigliano,
Italy, 2012

Leaving Home deals with
migration. The act of migration
escapes from representation:
initiatic journey connecting African
stowaways, their long odyssey at
sea, and the Italian "diaspora",
the biggest mass migration of
contemporary time. Because of
its mythopoietic nature it can be
only evoked by a series of
ritualistic gestures, vanishing
memories imprinted on film,
where "moving images" stand for
"escape" rather than
"representation".

Biography
Filmmaker and sound artist, Alessio
Rutigliano was born in Italy in 1988.
His works range from experimental
music to non narrative cinema. Under
the influence of the Italian master
Tretti, Rutigliano's cinema feels the
need to start over, hence the use of
black and white, out of sync, and
techniques like rubbing and brushing
borrowed from Bacon's paintings: a
cinema of sensation, following the
indices of deterritorialization rather
than reterritorialization in the
Deleuzian sense. Lately finished his
last work ASC for “Spot” by Pierluca
Cetera (54 Venice Biennale, Apulia
Pavillon) he is working now to the
shooting of Oedipus trash, narrative
film combining psychoanalysis, satire
and Deleuzian theories.
