Make sure to raise
awareness about
summer safety!

Summer Safety Awareness: Keeping
Safe during the summer months
Here are some Summer Safety tips you may want to review, if you have or are around kids:
• Make sure your kids’ bikes, scooters, skateboards, etc., are in good repair and they have protective gear.
• Talk to your kids about what to do if someone gets hurt while they are playing.
• Establish safe houses in your neighborhood, where your kids can go if they need help.
• Talk to your kids about Stranger Danger and see if your martial arts school offers classes on this topic.
• Kids need to be reminded to stay hydrated and drink enough water when they play hard or for long periods of time.
• Set boundaries about where your kids are allowed to go, along with what time they have to be home and in the house.
• Make sure your children always have a swimming buddy with them if they go to the pool. An adult must always be with a
younger child.
• Frequently check pool gates, door hardware, and locks to keep children, animals, and guests safe. (Cont. on page 4)

TESTING PICS!

Chosun
Academy Student of the
Month:
Orlando Corchado

“The Chosun One” for May 2012

Another testing has
come and gone!
Congratulations to all
who tested!
Parents - if you have
any pics from this
testing, please send
them our way!

Orlando Corchado is a three year old little ninja Orange
belt. His favorite kick is the turning kick and his favorite
martial artist is Israa Salah! His favorite athlete is Clay
Matthews which should come as nor surprise as his
favorite sport is football! Can you guess his favorite
team? It’s the Green Bay Packers! He’s not quite sure
what he wants to be when he grows up, but his current
goal for Chosun Black Belt Academy is to become a black
belt! Orlando also loves to listen to his dad’s band Slowburn!!
Congratulations Orlando! Keep up the good work!
PLEASE REMEMBER - Summer is here and it’s fun to go
barefoot, but going barefoot through the parking lot before
coming into the dojang is a BAD idea. Your feet will get
dirty and all that nasty stuff from the street will get on the
mat! So PLEASE wear shoes when coming IN and OUT of
the dojang!

Summer Safety Tips (Continued)
• Check all playground and sports equipment for damage that may cause injuries; replace or remove
anything that could hurt a child.

• Keep sandboxes covered when not in use to keep out stray animals.

• If your children have cell phones or text, talk to them about being alert and focused when crossing
streets or walking down sidewalks. Explain the seriousness about keeping their heads up and focused on
traffic and their surroundings.

• Talk to your children about picking up their belongings and keeping paths clear so no one trips over their
stuff.

Quotes on Awareness
“The truth is that our finest moments
are most likely to occur when we are
feeling deeply uncomfortable,
unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only
in such moments, propelled by our
discomfort, that we are likely to step
out of our ruts and start searching for
different ways or truer answers.
- M. Scott Peck

“When you meet someone better than
yourself, turn your thoughts to
becoming his equal. When you meet
someone not as good as you are, look
within and examine your own self.”
- Confucius
