In Memory of Stephanie Page
At 4’11” and 98 pounds, Stephanie was petite and had been throughout her entire life. When
she told people that she had four kidneys and two pancreases, they were shocked. Stephanie
always considered herself very lucky to be an organ transplant recipient. • She was
diagnosed with diabetes in 1975. In the following years, as a result of the disease, her bones
became very brittle, fracturing and breaking often. Her health deteriorated and she was
placed on dialysis. Stephanie was hospitalized 12 times the year before her first transplant in
November 1990. • While her health was greatly improved, she still had diabetes. As a result,
she had to have a second transplant, which truly changed her life. On her birthday, February 7, 1996, Stephanie
received the call to come to the hospital - they had found a match. The next day she was given the Gift of Life. Thanks
to the generosity of Charlene and Don Brode, Stephanie received a kidney and a pancreas from their 14-year-old-son,
Brad. • In 2008, more than 12 years after her second transplant, her diabetes had gone away. Stephanie felt great; no
longer had to take insulin and could eat whatever she wanted. • Stephanie spoke often about organ donation, she
always encouraged people to become organ donors and give the Gift of Life… the greatest gift they could ever give.
Sadly, Stephanie passed away in 2010, but her compassion and strength will never be forgotten.
