Background
Morotai  is  one  of   the  islands  that  lies  in  North   side  of   the  Mollucas  in   East  Indonesia.  Other  than  
being   famous  for   its  biodiversity  underwater  nature,  Morotai  island  is  also  known  to  be  one  of   the  
few  islands  in  Indonesia  which  has  many  relics  and  remnants  of  World  War  II  including   Aircra@  and  
Tank  wreckage,  and  bunkers  of  the  Allied  soldiers.     It  is  just  one  of  the  many  wrecks  that  divers  can  
observe  and  enrich  their  photograph  collecDon.
In  2012,   the  island  of   Morotai  was  selected  to  host  Sail  Morotai  2012  which   involves  aquaDc   and  
subaquaDc   sports   acDviDes   namely   Sail   Morotai   2012.   The   objecDve   of   Sail   Morotai   2012   is   to  
support   the  vast  development   of   Morotai  island   itself.   The  government   expects  the  event   to   be  
beneficial  to  local   communiDes,  and  to  encourage  the  development  of  tourist  sites  and  underwater  
acDviDes  which  are  in  line  with  Local  Government  program.

Announcement   of   winners  will   be   held   a@er   dinner   in   the   auditorium   of   the   naval   complex   in  
Daruba,  Morotai    island  on  Thursday,   September  6,  2012  at  10:00  p.m.    All  events  are  free  and  open  
to  the  public;  however,  seaDng  is  limited.

Rules
1.

POSSI   underwater   photography   compeDDon   is   open   to   entrants   of   all   skill   levels.   Eligible  
photos  are  those  that  have  not  been  published  or  accepted  for  publicaDon  and  must  have  been  
taken  by  the  person  submihng  the  entry.  

2.

Judges  are  not  allowed  to  enter  the  contest

3.

All  photographs  must  be  taken  underwater  in  a  natural  salt-­‐water  environment.

4.

All  photographs  must  be  of  marine  life  or  wrecks.  

5.

We  adopDng  the  conservaDon  rules  established  by  CMAS.   Marine  life  should   never  be  stressed  
or  endangered  for  the  sake  of  a  photo.  ConservaDon  rules  will  apply  to  all  entries  and  decisions  
will  be  final.  Entries  suspected  of  exhibiDng  the  following  behavior  will  be  disqualified:  
• Divers  visibly  damaging  the  environment  (e.g.  gear  dragging  or  kicking  up  sand).
• Animals  with  signs  of  stress  (e.g.  puffed  puffers,  inking  octopus).
• Animals  moved  to  an  unnatural  environment  or  risky  locaDon.
• Animals  being  fed  (especially  with  arDficial  food  from  divers).
• Marine  life  being  touched  (e.g.  coral  polyps,  seahorse  tails).
• Divers  exhibiDng  poor  buoyancy  control

6.

Digital   ediDng   of   photographs  is  acceptable   in   moderaDon.   Only   minor   adjustments   will   be  
accepted   (ie.   minor   brightness,   contrast,   or   cropping).   Any   heavily   filtered   or   manipulated  
photograph  will  be  rejected  at  judges’  discreDon.

7.

Photos  will  be  anonymously  judged  by  professional  photographers.  All  decisions  will  be  final.

8.

Ownership  and  copyright  of   all  entries  remains  with  the  photographer.   POSSI  reserves  the  right  
to  publish  winning  photos  without  compensaDon  for  educaDonal  purposes,  and  can  be  used  by  

the   governor   for   the   promoDon   of   tourist   desDnaDons.   Winning   photographs   will   also   be  
printed  and  used    by  POSSI  for  photo  exhibiDon.  
9.

Each  individual  can  only  win  one  prize.  

Photo Submission Guidelines
1.

Entries  must  be  saved  in  JPEG  format  and  should   be  sized  between  800  and  1500  pixels  in  the  
longest  dimension.  Images  will  be  viewed  on  a  large  monitor  and  should  be  in  the   AdobeRGB  
1998  or  sRGB  color  space.

2.

Five   best   photo   of   each   category   submi\ed   to   the   organizing   commi\ee   on   CD/DVD   and  
accompanied   by   an   official   entry   form   include   name,   address,   email   address,   and   phone  
number,  as  well  as  category  entered  for  each  image  included.  

3.

All  submi\ed  images   must  have  been  taken  by  the  entrant  that  is  verified  by  the  compeDDon  
marshal.  

4.

Images  may  be  opDmized  (i.e.  adjusted  while  maintaining   the  integrity   of  the  image),  but  not  
altered  such  that  an  image  does  not  reflect  the  actual  subject  ma\er.

5.

All  entries  must  be  received  before  the  deadline  date  of  05:00  pm    (17:00)  September  6,  2012.
