Charlottetown Yacht Club Hosts Open House
to celebrate National Sports Day
To celebrate Sports Day in Canada, Commodore Basil Dickson is pleased to announce an Open
House at the Charlottetown Yacht Club on September 28 & 29. Club Members and the public are
invited to "Walk the Docks" and participate in the following scheduled activities:
Friday, September 28
6:30-7pm - The Sport of Sailing: Nova Scotia Sailor, Distance Racer, and Royal Yachting
Association Yachtmaster Grant Gordon talks on the opportunities in sailing for Adults.
7-8pm - Race Rules & Sail Materials: Nova Scotia High Performance Racer and Doyle Sail
loft owner, Nathan Reece will be giving a seminar on Race Rules and types of sail materials
used in cruising and high performance sails.
Saturday, September 29
8am-3pm – CYC Open House: Tour the grounds, check out booths in CYC’s Grand Hall and take
part in the interactive schedule below:
8-10am - Walk the Dock Event: Tour the docks and feel free to ask members on the
characteristics of their boats and uses.
8am-12pm - Rowing and Kayaking Demonstrations: Inquire or trial these two Olympic sports
with the two on-site boating organizations.
8am-3pm – WaveSkills Sailing School: PEI’s only professional Sailing School for Adults
will to available to discuss charter lessons and courses for beginner to advanced adult sailors.
10am-12pm - Junior Sailing Demonstrations: Youth are invited to test out Junior boats
under the guidance of qualified instructors and inquire on sailing lessons for the 2013 season.
10am-3pm - CYC Closing Regatta: Watch the last of the season on-water competition from
the grounds of CYC or Victoria Park.
12-1pm - Old Fashioned Mussel Bake and Barbecued Hamburgers will be available with
proceeds to Junior Sailing Program.
12-1pm – Royal Canadian Sea Cadets will be on hand to answer questions on their
programs, and will demonstrate various sailing maneuvers in the afternoon.
1-3pm - Stand up Paddleboard Demonstrations by Sporting Intentions: Test your
balance on the latest waterfront sport.
1-3pm – Saga Sailboat Adventures Boat Tour: Visit and tour PEI’s largest sailboat charter
dockside and inquire for private or group charters.
1-3pm – CYC Closing Regatta: Watch the last on water Closing Regatta of the season
aboard member's power boats in the harbour.
