I. HW and WA Grades
Points and totals for all course assignments (HW, DB, and WA) are shown here on three separate grids. An asterisk (*) indicates the score average
for an intentionally missed assignment. WA = Writing Assignment HW = Homework DB = Discussion Board (listed by week) R =
Reflection
Note that the Writing Assignment Draft Review is required of every student and is completed any time during the semester. Points for the Review
will be averaged in at the end of the semester.

Students: You are identified in the first column by your selected identification number.
You can figure out your grade-point percentage by dividing your total individual points by the total number of course points.
A = 90-100% B = 80-89% C = 70-79% D = 60-69%.

II. Course Grading Policies
Late or Missed HW or WA While it is understandable that you may need to miss completing an assignment at some point in this course, you
should plan to complete all the work assigned. This will ensure your getting the best possible grade and maximizing improvement in your writing
skills .
As stated the course syllabus, I understand that demands on a student’s personal life can make success in college difficult. Nonetheless, personal
problems, ill health, doctor appointments, vacations, employment demands, travel, computer difficulties, and other such impediments do not
excuse students for late or missed work or from meeting other requirements for the course. Keep in mind that any missed HW or WA is counted
as zero points and can substantially hurt your overall percentage or final grade in the class. Late work is accepted up to 24 hours after it is
originally due, but loses 20% of points earned. If you cannot turn an assignment in on time, make the effort to turn it in late even though you will
lose some points. A zero seriously damages your overall point average. And remember: A missed assignment means a missed opportunity to
learn.
You may intentionally miss one HW and one WA writing assignment during the semester with no penalty. If for some reason you have to
miss turning in an assignment, you may notify me before or within 24 hours after the assignment is due that you have intentionally missed the
assignment. You don’t need to give me a reason. I will record your current grade percentage during that week for the missed assignment. For
instance, if your WA point average during that week is 80%, you will get a score of 80% of the missed assignment points. You may intentionally
miss one HW and one WA assignment and receive credit in this way one time only in each category during the semester. Failure to notify me of
an intentionally missed assignment within 24 hours after the due date will result in a zero grade for that assignment. This policy does not apply
to the impromptu online essay for WA6, currently scheduled for October 31, 2012.
Writing Assignment Draft Review: This assignment is required of every student. You may complete it for any writing assignment you wish to,
any time during the semester. See WA Draft Review in Bb for details.
Make-Ups and Rewrites I do not accept make-up or rewritten work. I want your best effort the very first time you complete an assignment.
What you learn by completing an assignment, together with what you learn from my comments and the grade you receive, are things you are
expected to apply to the next graded assignment. That means I expect you to spend adequate time planning, writing, revising, and proofreading
an assignment before submitting it for a grade. The number of assignments in this course lessens the weight of any single assignment. If you do
poorly on an assignment, learn from that experience, and use what you have learned to get a higher grade on the next assignment.
Extra Credit I intend for a final grade in this course to represent the quality of work done for normally graded, required assignments.
Consequently, the only “extra credit” available is to post a revised version of a recently returned writing assignment in accordance with the
directions given in the Student Writing section in Blackboard (Bb). This opportunity is open to everyone in the class following the return of each
writing assignment.
