I started with 30 mL (1 oz) of 87 Shell gasoline doped with various additives, except for the control jar with no
additives. The gasoline was confirmed to contain approximately 6% ethanol (Shell pump was labeled “up to
10%”). All jars had 0.3 mL water added that mixed well with the E10 gasoline. Jars were covered by lids, but
vented several times a week to provide fresh air (oxygen). After 3 months exposure to sun and air outdoors
(September-December 2012) very thick orange semi-solid deposit was found in all jars, see below. It was hard
to see differences, except some appeared more solid and some were semi-liquid.

Blue Stabil:

Red Stabil:

Fuel Power 60:

Lucas UCL:

Startron:

TCW3 oil:

Prestone fuel cleaner:

Naphtha:

To show the degree of thickness, I put the jars on their sides for a couple of minutes and took pictures again.

Finally, I rinsed the deposits with fresh gasoline twice, approx. 1 minute of washing each.

My conclusions:
Shell gasoline produces a whole lot less solid deposits compared to my previous study with BP gasoline. Also
deposits were orange rather than green-brown in BP.
Below are my first study BP control deposits after 2 months and after 3 months after rinsing with fresh gasoline.

In this study, most additives worked some and made the deposit less solid, except for Startron which made
things worse.
Rinsing with fresh gas removed deposits in most additives, except for Startron that left hard to wash deposit and
Prestone that left traces of deposits. Control had some deposits left too.
Here are the big surprises in this study:
1. Shell gas did much better than BP. However, Shell is top-tier while BP is not.
2. Some additives are not advertised as stabilizing gas, but did work. That includes: Lucas UCL, TCW3,
and naphtha.
3. Some additives are advertised as stabilizing gas, but did poor job. That includes Startron. My previous
study showed similarly surprising results with MMO and Seafoam.
4. No difference I could see between Red and Blue Stabil, except for concentration.
Doses:
Blue Stabil 1:630, Red Stabil 1:315, FP60 1:630, Lucas 1:416, Startron 1:1008, TCW3 1:120, Prestone 1:252,
naphtha 1:120.
