COMMUNITY COUNTDOWN PARTIES ORGANISED BY RESIDENTS, WITH
RESIDENTS AND FOR RESIDENTS
Every year, the People Association (PA) Grassroots Organisations
(GROs) organise community countdown parties to create opportunities for
residents to meet and make friends, and share their wishes and aspirations for
the New Year. This year, about 50 Community Countdown Parties will be
organised at various locations around the island, reaching out to more than
88,000 residents of different ages, races and nationalities.

This year’s countdown parties, revolve around a resident-centric theme
“Countdown with All, for All”. These celebrations are organised by the
residents, with the residents and for the residents of different races and social
backgrounds. They will serve as a great platform fro residenst to come
together to do something meaningful with their families and friends and share
their wishes and aspirations for the New Year with their neighbours. Residents
will deepen their engagement, make new friends and have fun as a community,
hence building stronger community bonds. The parties planned this year range
from large scale events that reach out to thousands of residents, to more cosy
ones organised by the Residents’ and Neighbourhood Committees.

This year, we not only see more youths stepping up to help plan and
organise these parties for their friends and the community. Some of these key
events include the Sembawang GRC Hypesteria 2013 Countdown Party –
countdown to COSMOS!, Sengkang West “SHOUT” 2013 Countdown
Celebration and Bedok Countdown 2013 – Together We Celebrate
‘Countdown 2013’.

Over at “Sembawang GRC Hypesteria Countdown Party –
countdown to COSMOS!”, youth interest groups such as the Astromony
Interest Group have planned an exciting programme for residents to gather and
‘watch the stars’ through the telescopic lens, live performances by local
community artists and bands, interactive booths and activities by Sembawang
GRC Youth Executive Committees and Live SMSes feed for residents to share
their well wishes at the event.
