2

Once upon a time there was a farmer named Bill,
who lived in a farmhouse.

3

The one thing Bill loved most of all was reading his
Bible. But sometimes it was difficult.

4

Outside perched on a fence near his barn was a very
noisy blackbird. It cawed often.
A little too often.

5

It was so loud farmer Bill easily heard it indoors.
He prayed to God a lot to be patient. Perhaps the
bird would fly away someday, and peace
would return to the farm.
6

When the noise became too great for him to bear,
farmer Bill went outdoors into his blueberry bushes.

7

It was the one place, even with the noise, he
could get his mind off that bird!

8

One day the blackbird was exceptionally noisy.
So after farmer Bill had picked a pail of blueberries,
he went to the fence to confront the bird.

9

Something miraculous happened! When the bird saw
the blueberries, he became silent. Farmer Bill fed the
berries to his fine feathered friend. So, he began to
pick blueberries for the bird each day.
And, peace continued.
10

Until one day, after picking blueberries and giving
some to the blackbird, farmer Bill heard his feathered
friend cawing again. Once again, farmer Bill could
not enjoy reading his Bible.

11

Perhaps the blueberries didn’t work anymore to
silence the bird. Farmer Bill had had enough.
He decided to confront the bird and
order him off his property.
12

But when farmer Bill stepped outside, he saw his
barn was on fire. He realized the blackbird had
been a blessing, for without the cawing sounding
alarm, the barn might be lost.
13

Farmer Bill grabbed a hose and
quickly went to work.

14

He sprayed the barn down with water, and the
flames went out. And miraculously, the barn
appeared to have suffered no real damage.

15

Farmer Bill approached the blackbird
to thank him. He brought with him
a pail of blueberries, then something
miraculous happened.
16

The blackbird turned BLUE!
Perhaps he had eaten too
many blueberries.

17

And something else happened, too. Now a
bluebird, his voice changed. The bluebird
chirped a pleasant sound. And
he did from that day on.
18

Farmer Bill now could read his Bible again
without any distraction, for in the distance he
heard only a melodic song coming from
his fine feathered friend!
The End!
