Press Release
1 May 2013

Jazz & Blues Festival, Solihull
24 – 27 May 2013

The late May bank holiday this year will once again see the Midlands
town of Solihull come to life with 4 days of live Jazz and Blues.
Launched in 2012, the Jazz & Blues Festival proved to be a massive
success with thousands of visitors flocking to the town for the openair celebration despite 2012´s unseasonal summer weather. This
year´s event will feature an impressive line-up of performances from
more than 20 acts from the UK jazz scene including The Bruce Adams Quartet, Ricky Cool, The Broombusters, The Dixie Ticklers,
Fabulous Boogie Boys, Alan Barnes Liquorice Stick Allsorts, the
Bruce Adams Quartet and many more (full listing details attached).
The festival activities will revolve around it´s hub in Jubilee Gardens
where crowds can enjoy the early summer weather (hopefully) and
free performances whilst enjoying a drink or two with family and
friends. The festival will also take over the town centre with a stage
in Mell Square and local business including O´Neills, Missoula, John
Lewis and the Slug and Lettuce will all join in the festivities and stage
free live performances events in their venues.
Whilst the majority of the events at the festival will be free, there will
be two ticketed events staged at Solihull Arts Complex. The Big
Bear Ffolly opens the festival on the Friday night with a show that
celebrates forty five years of Big Bear Records and also marks the
start of a 20 date UK tour. The show features a formidable Jazz line
up of King Pleasure & The Biscuit Boys, Val Wiseman, Tipitina
and the boss of the blues, Roy Forbes. The following evening will
see undisputed Jazz maestro Alan Barnes Liquorice Allsorts take
to the stage in his laid-back studio show showcasing a fine selection
of favourite as well as lesser known jazz names.
