what the bible assert on
Whereas the legal concerns surrounding abortion continue unsettled for numerous people, the
Bible scholars at BibleResources.org say it's apparent from scripture that abortion opposes God's
laws. The leading online source for insightful Bible translations and features does not back away
from controversial matters such as abortion, and its users will discover other like topics to explore
from a Biblical perspective. According to Rev. Betty Miller, one of the founders of the site,
numerous Bible passages proclaim the worth of life, and specifically, the value of the unborn. In
commentary on these scriptures, Rev. Miller explains the Biblical basis for a conclusion that goes
against abortion. One of the Ten Commandments states, "Thou shalt not kill." God's law on killing
the innocent is referred to specifically as going against this commandment by Rev. Miller. The
commandment refers to "murder," a premeditated and intentional act of taking a life-different from
an accident or killing in self protection. Referring specifically to the killing of innocent children and
babies, Psalm 106 addresses those who seek abortion. "They mingled with the nations and
adopted their customs. They worshipped their idols, which became a snare to them. They
sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons. They shed innocent blood, the blood of their
sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan and the land was desecrated by
their blood." Despite the fact that a fetus isn't a fully developed baby, abortion is relative to killing
it for selfish reasons, such as convenience and ambition. Why is it essential to object to a practice
that isn't hurting anyone else? For the reason that it's a reflection on civilization as a whole,
according to Rev. Miller. When citizens refuse to take blame for other people flouting God's laws,
they are at fault. It also creates a slippery slope of other misdeeds, and people become less moral
on the whole. An example comes from Numbers 35:33-34. "Do not pollute the land where you
are. Bloodshed pollutes the land and atonement cannot be made for the land on which the blood
has been shed, except by the one who shed it. Do not defile the land where you live." This verse
shows that not only is murder an assault against the inviolability of life, it pollutes the land-and
defiles the people who live on it. Do the unborn have rights and souls? Rev. Miller points to
Exodus 21:22 as evidence. In it, the law asserts that if two men are battling and hit a pregnant
woman, the man who harmed the baby will be accountable for paying a penalty for doing so. The
Bible contains several other verses to do with unborn children, also, that assist us to understand
God's value of their lives, including: "The Lord hath called me from the womb: from the bowels of
my mother hath he made mention of my name." -Isaiah 49:1 "For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully
made."-Psalm 139:13-14. It appears apparent, as well, in the verse Jeremiah 1:5 that God
recognized the Prophet to be a fully formed person with all of his potential intact even before he
was born-and the loss of such a distinguished human being would have been a tremendous loss
to his people, whether they knew it or not. The verse says, "Before I formed you in the womb I
knew you. Before you were born, I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.
