Republicans rake in money from oil-and-gas business
The natural oil and gas business has donated overwhelmingly to Republicans for the 2014
election cycle through a range of political action committees, according to the Center for
Receptive Politics.
GOP candidates snagged 85 percentage of the $2.6 million in contributions from the gas and oil
Ameratex Energy Securities Oil And Gas Investment industry, OpenSecrets data reveals, citing
July 29 data published by the Federal Election Commission.
ExxonMobil topped the listing at $344,500 in contributions, $304,500 which in turn went to
Republicans.
Koch Industries, properties of the billionaire buddies who have quite often financed conservative
candidates and causes, came in second giving $297,000 to Republicans and $5,000 to
Democrats.
Rounding from the top five were Marathon Petroleum ($226,000), Halliburton ($161,500) and
Chevron ($153,501).
The mining industry also has heavily preferred Republicans, awarding 83 % of a total $476,000 in
contributions to Republican candidates.
The Electric utility industry was far less manipulated in the direction of Republicans. Such PACs
have supplied $3.1 million, handing checks to Republican contenders two-thirds of that time
period.
