The  24  Hour  Plays®  will  return  to  the  Abbey  Theatre  on  Sunday,  2nd  March  2014,  for  the  3rd  annual  
presentation  in  aid  of  Dublin  Youth  Theatre.  The  best  of  Irish  writing  and  directing  talent  will  join  over  two  
dozen  of  Ireland’s  most  recognised  and  beloved  stars  of  stage  and  screen,  to  create  six  short  plays  written,  
rehearsed  and  presented  all  within  24  hours.  A  team  of  over  20  theatre  technicians,  including  producers  from  
The  24  Hour  Play®  Company  in  New  York,  will  facilitate  the  work.  
 
This  will  be  the  3rd  annual  presentation  of  The  24  Hour  Plays  as  a  special  fundraising  event  for  Dublin  Youth  
Theatre  and  tickets  will  cost  from  €30-­‐€60,  with  all  proceeds  going  directly  to  DYT.  Tickets  are  now  on  sale

Some  of  last  year's  participants  included:  special  musical  guest  Lisa  Hannigan,  playwrights  Fiona  Looney,  
Michael  West,  Arthur  Riordan;  directors  Garry  Hynes,  Annabelle  Comyn,  Louise  Lowe,  and  Annie  Ryan.  Actors  
included  Pauline  McLynn,  Eleanor  Methven,  Janet  Moran,  Cathy  Belton,  Sarah  Greene,  Finuala  Murphy,  
Stefanie  Preisner,  Marie  Ruane,  Anita  Reeves,  Aobhinn  McGinnity,  Valerie  O'Connor,  Shane  Byrne,  Mark  
Fitzgerald,  Ian  lloyd  Anderson,  Keith  Duffy,  Andrew  Macklin,  Laurence  Kinlan,  Peter  Coonan,  Declan  Conlon,  
Gary  Murphy,  Nick  Lee  and  Conor  Madden.  
 
The  24  Hour  Plays®  originated  in  New  York  in  the  mid-­‐90s  and  is  now  an  annual  gala  benefit  on  Broadway,  as  
well  as  at  the  Old  Vic  in  London,  with  performances  in  Chicago,  Athens  and  around  the  world.  The  first  Irish  
incarnation  of  The  24  Hour  Plays®  received  its  sold-­‐out  Irish  premiere  presentation  in  February  2012  at  Project  
Arts  Centre  and  went  on  to  win  a  Special  Recognition  Award  for  Best  Event  at  the  Irish  Fundraising  Awards.  In  
January  2013,  the  show  moved  to  the  Abbey  Theatre  where  it  played  to  a  sold-­‐out  house.    
 
DYT’s  artistic  director,  Gary  Keegan  welcomed  the  news  of  the  fundraiser:  "The  goodwill,  the  buzz  and  the  
level  of  support  generated  by  the  24  Hour  Plays  fundraiser  has  been  stunning.  The  event  brought  together  the  
very  best  of  talent  from  the  theatre  community  in  Dublin  in  a  show  of  solidarity  with  Ireland's  longest  
established  youth  theatre.  This  year  Dublin  Youth  Theatre  is  delighted  to  once  again  present  The  24  Hour  Plays  
on  the  Abbey  Theatre  Stage  with  even  more  big  names  from  Irish  Theatre  and  raising  much  needed  funds  
which  will  help  Dublin  Youth  Theatre  to  continue  to  provide  its  artistic  and  social  programme  for  the  Dublin's  
young  citizens."  
 
The  24  Hour  Plays  producer  Eva  Scanlan  is  delighted  to  return  to  the  Abbey  Theatre  with  The  24  Hour  Plays®.  
'We're  very  proud  to  be  partnering  with  the  Abbey  Theatre  again  to  present  the  3rd  annual  24  Hour  Plays  for  
Dublin  Youth  Theatre.  This  event  has  found  a  place  in  the  Irish  theatre  calendar  and  its  home  in  the  Abbey  
Theatre.  We  look  forward  to  working  with  some  familiar  faces  next  March,  and  to  welcome  a  host  of  first-­‐
timers  to  the  24  Hour  family.'    
 
About  Dublin  Youth  Theatre  
Dublin  Youth  Theatre  will  celebrate  its  37th  anniversary  in  2014.  Since  its  foundation  in  1977,  by  Educational  
Psychologist  Paddy  O’Dwyer,  Dublin  Youth  Theatre,  has  forged  a  unique  contribution  to  the  worlds  of  theatre  
and  youth  work.  DYT  currently  has  a  membership  of  120  young  people  aged  14-­‐22  from  all  across  Dublin  
attending  on  a  weekly  basis  for  workshops,  rehearsals,  performances  and  social  events.      
 
Among  DYT’s  1200  alumni  are  prominent  writers,  actors  &  theatre  makers  such  as  Emmet  Kirwan,  Aidan  
Gillen,  Pat  Nolan,  Roisin  Ingle,  Peter  Hanly,  Enda  Walsh,  Annabelle  Comyn,  Brendan  Courtney  &  Camille  
O’Sullivan.    
 
The  24  Hour  Plays®  is  presented  under  a  license  and  with  the  participation  of  The  24  Hour  Play®  Company,  
New  York,  NY  and  is  produced  by  Eva  Scanlan  and  Philip  McMahon  as  a  fundraising  event  for  Dublin  Youth  
Theatre.
