a brief writeup on the
All through the start of the growth of this little village tucked within the Borders, Moffat was listed
as a very little Burgh by way of the systematization of Scotland of town and non-urban properties.
During the 1700's Moffat had been a booming spa town, which attracted People from all over the
Country.One of the most famous
visitors to wander the roads of Moffat was the famed poet Rabbie Burns, who was a frequent
visitor to the Spa waters and the solace of this little flower of Scotland.
The town right now has a human population of around 2,500 people
dwelling there. However, combined with it's increasing
holiday industry and regular stop for coach firms Moffat carries a large town feel together with the
splendor and magnificence of any rural hamlet.
Many tourist's who arrive in the town are desperate to get their picture taken outside of the
Famous Star Hotel. The reason for this is it is officially the thinnest Hotel on earth, standing at a
mere twenty feet in width. This saw Moffat entered into the Official world Records Book. This is
only one of the reasons behind Moffat's popularity throughout the world.
Any visitor to Moffat just has to pay a visit to 'The Devils Beef Tub' which had been a favourite
spot for Cattle thiefs to hide their animals. The reason it is extremely deep is caused by the fact it
is actually in the centre of four massive mountains.
As said before earlier Moffats popularity grew promptly on the discovery of a organic spring
outside of the Village. This led to the locals constructing a very profitable Spa Town. The
Victorians regarded the Spa as among the best and most healthy in the Country. This led to
Victorian tourist's flocking to the Town in droves. This led to the towns-folk constructing a very
classy Bath House in the middle of the Village. This bath house equaled many of the luxurious
ones built all through the Roman era. It was designed in such a way that water was pumped in
from the nearby spa spring. However, a massive fire saw Moffat eventually lose its recognition as
a Spa Town.
The spring has now been refurbished and today stands as a tourist attraction. So from 1921 (the
time of the fire in an sophisticated spa hotel) Moffat needed to try and find other means of
revenue. With its magnificence, both the town itself, and the surrounding landscapes and
countryside was a magnet for visitors. So Moffat effortlessly switched from a famous Spa Town to
a Town famed for the organic beauty and clean air.
Hill walkers frequently travel from far and wide to stay in the town and get the opportunity to check
out appeal of its surrounding hills. They stay in the little town itelf and also the near by small town
of Beattock. This is also target for visitors who have come for a walking holiday.
The single most unique tourist spot's within the Town is a

sculpture of a Ram. It was crafted a long time ago by a local farmer and the tale goes that when it
was designed someone yelled, "It's got nae lugs!" Interpreted this means, "It's got no ears!" When
the statue was created the sculpter inadvertantly forgot to create some ears.
Another amazing feature of Moffat that you must take a look at is the dimensions of its main road.
It's so wide they've constructed a car park down the middle of it! Despite the presence of a car
park in the centre there's still enough room for a small market at one end of the road.
No one knows exactly what the foreseeable future holds for this incredible little town. One thing is
certain though. Moffat will continue to be considered to be the secret diamond of
Scotland. The truth is many people are frightened to share with a lot of people about Moffat as
they are worried that it will lose its enchantment if people discover it's wonders. However, it has to
be remarked that this Author finds that an impossible concept.
If you get the opportunity pack your bags and head for the astonishing and highly diversified little
Town named Moffat.
Something is for sure you'll certainly be met with a warm welcome, both from the people working
at your hotel as well as the people located in Moffat itself. The fact is that once you get your feet
beneath the table it's possible you'll just want to make this vibrant and magnificent little Town a
home from home.
Moffat is not only a jewel in the Crown of Dumfries and Galloway but of all Scotland.
