Step 3: Entertainment
Now that you have a venue and food arranged,
you need to decide how to entertain your guests.
For most events, organizations do this by putting
together various performances. These will vary
widely depending on your culture, but please
explore this section for general advice on finding
volunteers, places to practice performances, etc.

Entertainment Questions
Checklist
Choosing entertainment:
 How long is the show? Will the audience get too hungry if the dinner is after the show?
 Do you want your show to include only OU students? Are there local cultural groups that you
would like to perform at your event?
 Do you need a Master and/or a Mistress of Ceremonies for your show?

Coordinating entertainment:
 Do I know people willing to perform? (If not, ask IAC for help!)
 Do we have a place to practice? Dale Hall and various Union rooms include popular practice
locations.
 Did my MCs get a chance to practice too?
 Do we need to order or make cultural costumes?
 Do we need to mix music tracks?
 Did the performers sign Talent Release forms?

Types of Entertainment
Your organization can include whatever types of
entertainment it is able to coordinate. In case you are
having trouble thinking of ideas, here are a few great
entertainment types that organizations often include:
• Dancing
• Singing
• Playing a Musical Instrument
• Stand-up Comedy
• Skits
• Videos

Finding Volunteers
You do not need to worry about finding volunteers for performances.
You can find enthusiastic performers in many places, including:
• Your own organization members
• IAC Sub-Committee and Core of Volunteers (sometimes, even the
Executive Committee, Task Force, and Judicial Board members
would be willing to perform!)
• Other international student organizations, especially those affiliated
with IAC or those with a culture similar to your own
• Other campus organizations, especially those that focus on a
particular type of cultural performance (If you need help contacting
these, please ask your IAC liaison or an IAC executive member!)
• Community cultural organizations, especially those that focus on a
particular type of cultural performance

Practice Facilities
Most organizations reserve rooms in the Union
for performance practices. You can go to this
page to do so.
Organizations may also practice in two different
rooms in the Houston Huffman Fitness Center
(“the Huff”). In order to reserve these rooms,
you must fill out this form and return it to the
front desk at the Huff.

Photography and
Videography
Don’t forget to find volunteers to photograph and
videotape the show! Put the pictures on your
organization’s Facebook page and the videos on your
organization’s Youtube channel afterwards so that
everyone can view them.
Check with members of your organization or with IAC
members to see if anyone happens to own high-quality
cameras and/or videotaping equipment. If not, you can
rent it from the Student Organization Resource Office
(SORO). Keep in mind, however, that SORO imposes
high fines for equipment that is returned late.
