find the right person to teach him on time, but he soon found help and all was
going smoothly. Finally, he was graduating and looking back to his life on campus,
he was so glad he was leaving the university with more than a degree in banking
and finance, but with great impacts. Most of his writings were published as tracts
and many lives were blessed reading. He had painted some of the finest pictures
in his department at the time. In short, his life had become enviable!
On getting out of the university, he founded a music school where he taught
people how to play the piano and he held concerts regularly where many were
healed while singing, praising and worshiping God. What about his banking and
finance degree? He had six awards in the banking industry and was reputed to be
a man of unrivaled integrity and virtue. Did I tell you he got married to Florence?
Yes, he did and they raised adorable children.
obin, a university undergraduate at the age of 18 had a great experience
with God. His light shined so brightly in darkness and all men rejoiced in his
light. He was an ardent student of the bible with great insights about the work of
Christ on the cross of Calvary and this freed his heart to love God. As a result of
such dutiful commitment to the bible, he was a man of prayer. His prayer lifestyle
was on the move. He switched conversations between God and men like he
literally was seeing God and as a result of this prayer culture; the revelation of
what God would have him do was made clear to him on a daily basis. He was
walking with God and enjoying every step along the way.
He was studying banking and finance but God seemed to be saying to him,
'there is more'. As he tuned in day in day out, he soon discovered he had gifts
that have been long idle. He could be a writer, an artist, and a pianist.
He was overwhelmed by all these new discoveries about himself and he braced
up for the more God had shown him. In no time, because of his zealous attitude,
he joined the publication unit of his church on campus and started writing for
them. His articles had deep contents but his style of writing was so discordant.
He soon found help from a lady, Florence, who was a great poet and writer. She
helped him shape his writing and soon, the whole church was always looking
forward to read from him.
When he was on vacation, he would visit his uncle, an artist, and groom his
artistic skills. The hardest of them was learning the piano because he just didn’t
Unfortunately, all you just read never happened (Writer nods pitifully). This Robin
guy was so pre-occupied with his academics that he never had any serious time
for his bible. He prayed in an unkempt manner; sometimes once in a week just to
ask God for something. He was very active in church no doubt but lacked a
personal, intimate knowledge of God. And God was speaking and speaking but
his mind was dull of hearing, dead insensitive. He finally managed to get an award
as the best staff of the year in one of the years of tiring service. He went to church
for thanksgiving and was jubilating in ignorance, but God was shaking His head
knowing his thanksgiving could have abounded much more if only he had cast his
cares upon Him.
And the writer was just wondering what Joseph
in the bible would have traded off if all he cared
about was his father's sheepfold. He became a
Prime minister in a foreign land. What about
David, he would have traded off royalty for
sheep breeding. What about Abraham, he
would have traded off being a father of faith for
being king in his father's house. Whatever
badge of greatness one wears with his own
effort and wisdom is only a shadow of what
could have been. And the bible rightly says we
should trust in the Lord with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding;
to acknowledge Him in ALL our ways and He shall direct our paths (Prov.3:5-6).
There is a grand idea in the mind of God for everyone.
Perhaps, you're like Robin, you can still get it right now by committing to a lifelong
walk with God through His word before someone else picks a pen to write about
the more you traded off...
