WILD DOGS
IN SHEEP’S
CLOTHING

Welcome to the EARLY YEARS OF SKIING! The wooden planks were
as heavy as tree trunks and as thin as matches, and steel edges
providing a grip would only come several years later. Skiers wanting
powder back then had to undertake a long, laborious trudge through
the snow with skis on their shoulders, before they could get to the
top of the slope. There were no lifts – SKIERS WERE LIKE WILD
DOGS!
A lot of the equipment has changed completely since then. New
materials have made ski equipment lighter and more stable, forging
the way for modern-day skiing. In the clothing area, though, the
situation is a little different. The wild dogs from back then knew how
to dress. They knew about the ONION PRINCIPLE (today’s LAYERING
SYSTEM) and they wore wool. The properties of wool haven’t
changed much up to now. However, what has changed is the style,
the colors, and the blending with other fibers that can do things that
wool alone cannot do.
ORTOVOX has been USING WOOL in its products SINCE 1988. That is
25 YEARS OF TRADITION AND PASSION for our woolly four-legged
friends. To celebrate our anniversary, we decided to follow in the
footsteps of our grandparents and take a trip to the roots of skiing.
Equipped with wooden skis, clothed in traditional skiwear from the
early 20th century, our employees fought it out to win the first
ORTOVOX SKI CHAMPIONSHIP – just like in the old days!
