THE ASCLEPIAN VOICE
T
he Asclepians’ summer started
off with a bang as they traveled
to Loguingot Island, Estancia,
Iloilo, this March 29, 2014 to take part
in the Medical, Dental, and Surgical
Mission sponsored by the Rotary Clubs
of Bacolod and Iloilo City.
The Asclepians were invited by Dr.
Chris Sorongon of Batch 24. Dr.
Anastacio Rufon of Batch 11 led the
surgical team, and Dr. Lester Dimzon of
Batch 28 handled the medical
consultation. Taking place at Loguingot
Elementary
School,
the
faculty
members and barangay health workers
also assisted the entire activity.
The mission was divided into three
parts: medical consultation, dental
checkup
and
extraction,
and
circumcision.
The Rotary Clubs held a raffle in the
afternoon. Groceries were given to the
winners together with pails and basins.
They also donated medical supplies and
medicines to the local health center to
address the health care needs of the
people especially after the hurricane
Yolanda.
One of the challenges faced by the
group was the transportation of the
medical supplies via pumpboats.
Reaching the island took fifteen minutes
in a small dinghy big enough for only
five people. And owing to the low tide
that afternoon, wading a half kilometer
into the shallow sea was required to
reach the boats after the event.
Despite the heat and the hard work, the
mission ended on a successful note. We
suffered sunburns and endured
exhaustion, but we went home with our
hearts full and our spirits soaring. #
