I’m sure you’ve heard the
news about Heartbleed by
now. Heartbleed is a kink in
encryption software,
discovered by security
researchers. It is a vulnerability in
OpenSSL and could affect nearly two­
thirds of websites online. If exploited, it
can leak out your passwords and login
names, thus putting your personal
information at risk. It is not known how
widely the bug has been exploited, if at all,
but what is clear is that it is one of the
biggest security issues to have faced the
internet to date. A fix has been created for
the Heartbleed bug, but many web sites
across the Internet have still not
implemented it to their services. Before
changing your passwords for specific
websites you should first check that those
sites have fixed the Heartbleed problem.
