A Photo Show about Wildfires in our Mountain Communities
this Saturday (May 3) from 12 to 2:30 p.m.
at the Frazier Park Library

Gunnar also shows the passion, skill and commitment of
the firefighters battling the flames and the enormous
logistics supporting their activities.
Gunnar's photos have and continue to show was is
actually happening in our backyards. He provides the
viewer with rare images about the true nature of wildland
fires and the amazing jobs performed by firefighters.

On Saturday, May 3, from 12 - 2:30 p.m. the Frazier Park
Library will host a photography show "Mountains
Burning."
Everybody is welcome to come in and enjoy the
spectacular images for a few minutes or for the entire
time.
Gunnar J Kuepper has captured images from more than
50 Wildfires in the Greater Frazier Mountain Area since
August of 2012, the latest one being the Curtis Fire on
April 30, 2014 in Lockwood Valley.

The "Mountains Burning" Photo Show goes hand-inhand with the Wildfire Awareness Expo’s on Saturday,
just across the street from the Frazier Park Library. There
you will receive valuable information on wildfire
awareness,
hazard
reduction,
and
emergency
preparedness at the Wildfire Awareness Expo. You will
see wild land firefighting equipment and meet local
wildland and Kern County firefighters.

His series of wildfire images shows the power and
sometimes even the beauty created by the flames, the
force of the dark smoke, as well as the total devastation
following the blaze.

In our Frazier Park Library you will see “wow” photos of
the men and women and their equipment in action, and
you will see spectacular images showing the recent
wildfires in and around our communities.

Because of unused snow days, El Tejon Unified School
District schools will be closed on

a greatly reduced rate. The items being:
o concrete mix,
o chain link fencing which can be in various
heights from 4 foot,
o 8 foot-10 foot,
o poles for chain link fences,
o brackets for fences, tension bars for fences,
o top rails,
o top rail sleeves,
o infield dirt, and
o other various misc. parts for the fencing.
We could put up a sign on the field if a business donated
items or whatever they felt would be worthy, but any
help of even Labor offered to help INSTALL the fencing
would be greatly appreciated. If interested or can help in

The 63rd annual California State Science Fair was held
in the California Science Center on April 28 - 29, 2014.
This year there were 1030 participants from 423 schools
throughout the State who met in competition for awards
totaling $50,000.
El Tejon School students, William Edwards, Michael
Stegeman, Jacquie Kelly, and Kelly Stegeman, were
among 629 other students participating for the very first
time at this prestigious event. Our students gave it their
all, but were unable to come home with an award; the
competition was just so challenging and intense.
However, what they did come home with was a very
positive attitude and experience that will help them
prepare for next year’s project and beyond. And despite
our students being exhausted from all the time and effort
they put into their projects, they were still very excited
and proud to represent El Tejon Unified School District
at this incredible event. I am so proud and honored to
have worked with such a dedicated group of students,
and I look forward to working with more future scientists
in the years ahead.

high as 15 feet and some telephone/communication lines
were damaged. About five acres of brush were consumed
by the flames before the fire was for the most part
contained around 4:30 p.m.
A water-dropping helicopter from Ventura County
Sheriff's Department was instrumental in keeping the
spread of the fire under control.
No injuries or significant damage to structures were
reported from the so-called Curtis Fire.

Brush Fire in Lockwood Valley
On Wednesday, April 30, 2014 around 2:40 p.m. a brush
fire was reported in Lockwood Valley near Adams &
Curtis Trail in Ventura County.
Kern County Fire Units responded quickly and the crew
from Fire Station 57 (Frazier Park) was first on-scene,
followed by the crews from Station 58 (Pine Mountain
Club), 56 (Lebec), Ventura County, and Forest Fire
crews.

The first arriving firefighters found a fast moving brush
fire, driven by strong and gusty winds. Flames went as

Wildfire Awareness Expo’s in Frazier
Park

The Kern County Fire Department will be holding
Wildfire Awareness Expo’s in Frazier Park, Lake
Isabella, and Tehachapi to provide the communities with
valuable information on wildfire awareness, hazard
reduction, and emergency preparedness.
On display will be wild land firefighting equipment and
the opportunity to meet local wild land firefighters. There
will be free hot dogs, chips, drinks, educational materials
for children, Kern County Fire Explorers, Forest Service,
Cal Fire, CERT Teams, Fire Safe Councils, and Kern
