About The Clearwater Film Festival

In 2009, producer-director-actor Mike Rembis founded The
Clearwater Film Festival in celvebration of the triple threat, producer-director-actor combo. With the help of a few dedicated
film industry friends, TCFF is slated to be one of the country’s
most popular film events.

The SCRIPTOID Writer’s Challenge sensation! In its first

year, the challenge has risen as one of the fastest growing competitions in the game!
Ran by writers for writers, SCRIPTOID has a simple goal- even if you don’t win, you
should walk away feeling accomplished. Cash and prizes, and representation contracts
from ADA Management Group, given to winners. Competition ends September 30th,
2010. Winners announced in December. As a sponsor of TCFF, the people at SCRIPTOID
have selected a number of scenes as part of a mini-competition sponsored by the challenge. These scenes will be read as part of an event in conjunction with the film festival.

| The 2010 Clearwater Film Festival | www.theclearwaterfilmfestival.com

Dear Festivalgoers,
Welcome to The Clearwater Film Festival! It is our great pleasure to present to you over seventy films with no less than
ten World premieres and several Florida premieres.
This festival developed as a result of becoming enamored and inspired by my visit to Festival de Cannes in 2008. That
dynamic meeting of mind, personality, talent and celebrity drawn together for a single creative purpose fascinated me. I
spent the next year traveling to trade shows and festivals around the US.
The fundamental principle of a trade show is to bring everyone together to advance their careers. As an actor, writer and
director, this is how I like so many others want to spend their chosen profession; in advancement - to become the best at
what they do. Creating a film festival that does this simply made sense to me. So I announced that I was creating a film
festival and I did.
We intend to present an extraordinary outlet for bringing creativity together, to network with film professionals and
showcase those garnering recognition and achieving success.
Learning from master craftspeople is its own reward for any aspiring individual. I sought out panelists with experience to
share, who want to share it, and thank each of our guests for being here to enjoy our inaugural season.
In Clearwater Florida we have abundant sunshine and billowing clouds overlooking beautiful beaches on prime real
estate. One goal with this festival is to bring filmmakers here and offer a taste of true Florida with palm trees, beaches,
swamps, pine forest and city streets. Another is for resident filmmakers to reach out to the film industry with an annual
networking event that develops as a trade show and convention for the Southeastern US and effectively boosts local
production.
We also aim to recognize the multi-talented “Triple Threat Filmmaker” who does it all; acting, writing, directing and even
scoring music to produce their own works of art.
This year we introduce The Wavecrest Award. This token of recognition is dedicated to those whose work excels beyond
their peers. Our festivals sole purpose is to help filmmakers make films and showcase the absolute best work.
We received 200 submissions from around the globe and had an abundance of talent presented to us. With limited
screen time it was an excruciating decision to make eliminations and we wish there were a dozen more films we could
have shown you. Many films submitted were finely crafted and with what we have chosen for presentation we could not
be more proud.
In recognition of the films evaluated and including some of those accepted we must take notice of the vast array of content received pertaining in some way to the abuse of women. An alarming 15% of films submitted focused on this topic.
They came from every culture, every cast or class of people, from numerous countries and every continent. Numbers like
this can not be ignored when filmmakers worldwide, both narrative and documentary, are shouting at us with this message. It must be considered epidemic. Filmmakers reveal to us what we do not know there is to see.
It is with this message in mind that we support The Haven of RCS, a local shelter for abused women. We also support
Venue Actors Studio, a local not-for-profit acting school. We pledge a portion of profits from this festival will be donated
to these worthy causes.
We thank you for taking to the time and effort to be with us and trust you will enjoy the program we have developed.
Please partake of the many educational opportunities and networking events. We hope you will prosper with us and visit
year after year.

took it straight to pre-production and will soon be directing his first feature film. The Clearwater Film Festival is his biggest
challenge to date and he is excited to see it take shape. He is represented for acting by Sue Miller at The Miller Agency in
Tampa and for writing by George Doulamis at ADA Management in Palm Beach Gardens.

Ellen Rembis

QUALITY ASSURANCE/FESTIVAL LIAISON
Ellen is Mike’s wife of 23 years. tOriginally from New York City, she and Mike first met in Montana, when she was a
ranger in Yellowstone National Park. She completed a biology degree in Fish and Wildlife Management at Montana State
University in Bozeman and soon went into the pharmaceutical industry to become a Quality Assurance Auditor. She has
over 15 years experience qualifying prescription drugs for human consumption based on USDA standards. Poor batches
would never make the cut, not on her watch. Now, Ellen’s passion for film and those years of quality assurance experience gives us a tremendous advantage and an uncompromising edge in choosing our films. Ellen makes sure our screeners are well aware of what they should be watching for and grading films in compliance with a standards process that
creates a uniform scorecard and places all entries on equal footing before they are viewed. Once screened, results are
tabulated and recorded to see which films may end up being included as The Clearwater Film Festival Official Selections.

Justin Marr

FESTIVAL SPONSORSHIP LIAISON
Justin Marr excelled as a student at Central Michigan University, practicing all facets of film. As a screenwriter, Justin
co-wrote a weekly drama based on student-life for the award-winning student station, Moore Hall Television. To practice
concise, efficient writing, Justin simultaneously was a senior entertainment and sports reporter for the award-winning
student newspaper, CM-Life. As a habitual writer, Justin has written several shorts and features and hopes to someday
direct and produce his work. Justin increased his familiarity of film diversity during his tenure as member of the Central
Michigan Film Society Selection Committee. He organized, screened potential films, and promoted the International
Film Festival. To supplement his passion for film, Justin took several film courses under the acclaimed CMU staff, including sound/video editing, screenwriting, film analysis/critique, and entertainment law. The proactive student derived his
early experience through Tribeca Productions in New York City during two summer internships. He learned the crucial
principles of film development under a wealth of knowledge, including Jane Rosenthal and Robert DeNiro. Upon graduation, Justin joined filmmaker Mike Rembis with Best Productions to continue learning the art of film and bring film
recognition to Pinellas and beyond Florida with The Clearwater Film Festival.

The WaveCrest Award
Jeff Owen Artworks

The Wavecrest Award is an original design by San Jose
CA sculptor Jeff Owen. A sleek plate of shining steel
dances with a ribbon of hand cut metal filmstrip to become a one of a kind work of art that we are proud to
have as our own. The Wavecrest will be awarded to
the BEST work in these categories: Feature Film, Short
Film, Documentary, Animation, Director, Original Music, Screenplay, Actor, Actress, Supporting Roles, International Selection and Triple Threat Filmmaker.

Jeff Owen In His Own Words
“I try to approach each sculpture without following a set pattern.
My work begins with any idea. These ideas can begin with a found
object or they can begin with no object. When I’m in my studio I
may stumble and kick a few bits here and there -- and they may
just happen to throw into a pattern that sets me off, that sets off
a vision of how I would create and finish. If only it all had that
kind of accidental beauty to it. I want to be like a poet, with my
sculpture, my paintings, my life. My sculptures unite shapes – organically manipulated objects and textures, merging energy, allowing my spirit to emerge. My sculpture is both negative and
positive space, coexisting in one cohesive medium. The presence
and substance of raw steel ignores the realm of the smelter and
lives deeply, with emotion and a unique unknown clarity – deep
within me. My sculptures are an existential part of me – brought
to the surface for all to see. There is no deeper communication I
can express.”
