Political Party GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria) achieved a third
consecutive resounding victory at Bulgaria’s European elections. Boyko Borissov’s party not
only won the elections, but also defeated the Chairman of the Bulgarian Socialist Party and
President of PES, Sergey Stanishev. His party, leading the Coalition for Bulgaria, received
11,5% less support than GERB, which is currently in opposition. Bulgarian people clearly
demonstrated that they do not want the nationalist party ATAKA in Europe. ATAKA does not
receive necessary support by the people and they are not going to be represented in the
European Parliament.
With 30.40 % of the electorate's support, GERB secured six seats out of seventeen in the
European Parliament.
Our candidate MEPs led an active pro-European campaign: together they travelled more than
14.000 km, visited various locations and met thousands of Bulgarians. The GERB team reached
people from different social groups and geographic regions in order to spread the constructive
and positive messages of the party, to explain how our candidates will represent the Bulgarian
citizens in the EU. With hard work and dedication, we deserved people’s trust.
The European elections demonstrated that GERB is the preferred political party in almost every
Bulgarian regional city, big city, as well as in the capital city Sofia. GERB was also
overwhelmingly supported by the Bulgarians abroad - with 38.73% of the votes in comparison
to 5.40% for the Bulgarian Socialist Party, currently heading the cabinet in Bulgaria.
After two consecutive landslide victories of our party - considering the parliamentary elections
in 2013 - we are convinced that the current government headed by the Prime Minister Plamen

Oresharski and the BSP, supported by Movement for Rights and Freedoms and ATAKA
a nationalist party must resign and that new preliminary elections must be held immediately.
The following facts support our demand:

For a year now, Bulgarians all over the country have attended demonstrations against
the current government, demanding immediate resignation. Attracting more than 20 000
people daily in their peak, the protests clearly illustrate the total lack of legitimacy of
the Oresharski cabinet.

 Each day the current cabinet remains in charge is a lost day not only for Bulgaria, but
also for our European future. The BSP-led government supported by the Movement for
Rights and Freedom and the nationalist party ATAKA fails to comply with EU
legislation and regulations, leading to the erosion of trust in Bulgaria as an EU partner.
A recent example for this is the passing of a law aimed at circumventing the Third
Energy Package in order to avoid EU control over the South Stream project on
Bulgarian territory.
 On national level, the current government has failed to implement numerous necessary
reforms passed by GERB – such as the new law for schooling, aimed to raise the level
of primary education; the introduction of online public services; reforms aimed at
improving the business environment, reducing the administrative burden, irrelevant
reforms were made in the security sector, this took away Bulgaria from the EuroAtlantic integration and increased the percentage of household and organize crime.
 The unemployment rate in the county has reached 13,2% since BSP came into power, in
comparison to 12% during GERB’s rule and in times of toughest economic crisis.
Youth unemployment in Bulgaria has now reached staggering 30%.
 Due to the controversial economic decisions of the current government, Bulgaria’s GDP
will barely achieve growth of 1% in 2014. Moreover, there is a clear trend of surging
consumption and investment in the past twelve months, which will prevent the economy
from recovering in the near future.
 The loans taken by the current government have increased the national debt and
undermine the fiscal stability. Last year, the coalition government borrowed 1 billion
BGN, thereby raising the budget deficit to 2% of GDP. There is also no transparency as
to what more than half of the loan has been spent for.
These and many other controversial decisions of the BSP-led government have motivated
GERB, other opposition parties, and the largest part of the Bulgarian population to demand the
resignation of the Oresharski cabinet.
PP GERB is proud to have received overwhelming support at the recent European elections and
is confident that such results will be observed if early elections are held in Bulgaria.
