who is right about the
Autism is becoming an increasingly common condition among both adults and children alike.
Autistic people display a variety of symptoms, and there are several different kinds of autism. In
general, autism involves a lack of communication skills, a tendency to be extremely withdrawn
and an inability to conform to many everyday conventions. There are many factors that appear to
play a part in autism, though even experts do not claim to know the exact cause. This article will
look at three of the more probable causes for autism.
The question of whether autism is caused by vaccines is very controversial, and there is still quite
a bit of debate about this. Many people believe that certain vaccines, especially those that contain
a mercury compound called thiomersal, are responsible for the apparent increase in autism in
recent years. According to scientists in the mainstream, the evidence for this belief is nonexistence. The belief that giving young children vaccines increases the risk of autism is still held
by many in the alternative health community. Regardless if you beleive this hotly debated issue or
not, the fact remains that there is no conclusive evidence to prove or disprove this.
Evidence linking autism to parents who have children when their are older has been brought
forward as a possible cause. The mother's age has been shown to be a factor in whether a child
is at risk for autism or not. The age of the father is also a factor, however it is not as relevant as
the mother's. In recent years there has been an increase in the number of autism cases and this
can be explained by the fact that more parents seem to be waiting longer to have children. This is
especially true in developed, or wealthier nations around the world. This is not a black and white
cause since, young parents give birth to autistic children and older parents give birth to healthy
children. Older parents though are at a greater risk of giving birth to autistic children than younger
parents, statistically speaking.
Some researchers seem to think that the incidence of autism is rising because of environmental
toxins. In the past few decades, the number of people diagnosed with autism has increased along
with the amount of heavy metals, such as mercury and lead, in our environment. The use of
pesticides, as well as toxic household chemicals have also been blamed as likely causes of
autism. There is little doubt that people today are exposed to many more chemicals and toxins
than in the past. More studies are needed before it can be stated with certainty if these are a
cause of autism. Some experts still debate whether the incidence of autism is actually more
prevalent, or whether the diagnosis is now more widely given than previously.
When it comes to pinpointing the originators of autism, we still have a long distance to go before
any final answers are made. It is feasible that the determinants we have discussed in this article
play a part in autism, although this isn't true in every situation. Autism is a sickness that influences
every person in a different way. Likewise, there are probably a great number of originators of this
sickness.
