T he SA Te ddy Bear Foundation
When a child is scared or locked in
a vulnerable situation, a bear can
be a friend and provide a sense of
comfort. The message we contentedly would like to spread through
South-Africa is: STOP, THINK, CARE
and give a BEAR.
The focus of the TBF is to provide a
platform for the voices of children
who cannot find or outer their
own. The SA Teddy Bear Foundation stands for the protection of
our children’s rights. We aim to enlighten SA citizens concerning the
rights of children and to uplift children in vulnerable situations by
providing the relevant guidance
to our ‘grown-ups’ accompanied
by a message of hope and comfort
to children in the form of a bear.
STOP PHYSICAL VIOLENCE AGAINST OUR
STOP SEXUAL ABUSE AND SEXUAL EXPLOITATION OF OUR CHILDREN
STOP EMOTIONAL ABUSE AND VICTIMISATION OF OUR CHILDREN
STOP HUMAN TRAFICKING OF CHILDREN
STOP BULLYING OUR CHILDREN
STOP COOPORAL PUNISHMENT BY PARENTS AND ADULTS
THINK ABOUT OUR CHILDREN’S FUTURE
THINK ABOUT WHAT ADULTS DO TO
THINK ABOUT WHAT CHILDREN DO TO
CARE FOR EACH OTHER
CARE FOR OUR CHILDREN
CARE AND SHARE LOVE, HAPPINESS,
PEACE AND A BEAR
GIVE A BEAR :-)
The Teddy Bear Foundation is the brain child
of Dr Tanya M Robinson, B.A. (SW) (US) (Cum
Laude), M.S.D. (UP) (Cum Laude), N.E.C. (UNISA), A.H.S. (UNISA), D.Phil. (US), Ph.D. (NWU)
(Pr.0154326). This project has been on-going
for ten years and we have been involved in donating bears to institutions such as the Lesedi
Project, The Danville Help Project, New Beginnings Orphanage, Sunshine Centre, Reach for
a Dream, House of Hope and other projects in
rural communities near Johannesburg, Pretoria,
Cape Town and Bloemfontein. This year we aim
to reach an even broader spectrum to empower children and protect their rights.

We create awareness of matters such as physical and sexual abuse of children, bullying in
schools and other issues by asking citizens of
SA to STOP, THINK, CARE and give a BEAR.
‘STOP – THINK- CARE- GIVE A BEAR' is a simplistic project with a striking message that even a
three year old will be able to make their own.
This message can help thousands of children
to feel better about their circumstances, themselves and their future.
Everyone needs something to hold onto. Holding onto a bear can make that small difference that can give a child some hope and the
encouragement they might need in order to
speak about matters of their hearts. We reach
out to the community with the aim of making
a difference. With the bears and monetary do-
nations, professionals in return educate adults
and children about the risk that our children are
in and what can be done to protect our children
and stand up for their rights. Our main aim is to
give children a VOICE and to empower them to
stand up for their rights against adults and other children. With rights comes responsibility and
we all need to respect the responsibility that
comes with having rights.
Donations can be made in the form of bears or
monetary donations that the foundation will use
according to the outreach programmes planned.
Volunteers go out in the field to reach out to children and to hand them the bears with a written
How can you help us and how can we
We would love to come to your company or your school and talk to your
people about children’s rights and how
to protect our children. It will give us
great pleasure to come and talk to the
children at the school about children’s
rights and how to be a care for them and
also be caring to others. We request the
audience to bring along a bear along
for a child in need accompanied by an
envelope where the donator writes a
message to the recipient. The message
needs to be encouraging, caring, loving
and have an inspirational message.

A message that was written by a little girl :
“ Dear Friend, I give you this bear because I understand that you might be scared, you might
feel like crying but this bear will give you magic
powers and make your strong and allow you to
talk to a grown up about what is going on in
your life. Hold your bear close to your heart forever and I will be with you”.
