About us
Message from
the Chair
It is my pleasure to present the
NSW Telco Authority corporate
plan for the 2014/15 financial year.
It sets our strategic direction and
identifies how we will lead a unified
approach to government operational
telecommunications in NSW.
We are building on the foundations
achieved over the last 12 months, which
have delivered considerable benefits.
In 2014/15 the Authority will deliver
a whole of government strategy for
operational telecommunications
services. It will outline a comprehensive
reform program for the sector to
ensure that public safety and essential
services agencies have the right
operational telecommunications tools
to allow them to deliver services to the
NSW community.
The strategy will explore how the
Authority and industry can better
support the sector in providing
modern, robust and reliable
technology. Working in partnership
with agencies and industry, the
Authority will create a platform for
seamless telecommunications to
support frontline officers deliver what
is expected by the NSW community
efficiently, safely and reliably.
Rod Gilmour
Chairperson

Our role is to lead and drive reform of the sector.
We support NSW Government agencies that use
operational telecommunications for critical and noncritical purposes. These include public safety and law
enforcement agencies, emergency, essential and
community service providers for which the use of
telecommunications is a vital part of their work.
We also play an important role coordinating
responses to telecommunications outages during
major emergencies and natural disasters, including
acting as a link between telecommunications carriers
and emergency service organisations.
Our unique strategic perspective provides an
opportunity to deliver value for money, and
encourages interoperability across all agencies by
enabling access to unified platforms.
Acting as the central NSW Government interface with
the Australian Communications and Media Authority
(ACMA), we manage spectrum allocations on
behalf of all NSW agencies. This includes a national
reform program instigated by ACMA to establish a
harmonised government allocation for voice services.
