There is Talent in the
Mountain Communities!
- 3rd Annual Talent Show at the Fiesta Days by Courtney Ann Peterson

On Saturday, August 2, 2014, at 5 p.m. the Annual
Talent Show was held at the Fiesta Days for the third
year in a row. It was a smashing success, bringing in
125+ people to enjoy more than 12 different acts
performed by teens of all ages.
The contest show featured dancers, comedians, martial
artists, and many singers/songwriters.

The first act was performed by DJ & Zaria Kimbrough
(12 and 9 years old) dancing to “Bang Bang”. They were
followed by Luke Smith (15) and Rodrigo Rojas (14)
performing their original song “Something I Can
Change”. Third to perform was Josh Arreola (20) doing a
comedic impersonation as Kevin Hart and creating many
laughs in the audience.

Next was Cheyenne Meshkoff (18) singing “Strawberry
Wine.” She was followed by Conner Bobbit (13) who did
an amazing Kung Fu routine to the song “Kung Foo
Fighters”.
Afterwards Mikaela Kjenaas (15) performed a beautiful
dance to “Midnight”.
Next came Kayla Perry (13) singing “Bring Me To Life”.
Destiny Abreu (19) performed her original song "War".

Lyrics and music astounded the judges and audience as
well and earned her to be awarded with the 1st place.
DJ & Zaria's animated and captivating performance won
the hearts of everybody in the room. They were awarded
2nd place.

Then Elijah Cordova (9) performed the song “Rude” by
“Magic!”.
Finalizing the competition part was Court Jensen (18)
performing the classic “Twist & Shout”.
At the end my sister, Delaney Peterson sang “Summer in
Ohio” in a most incredible way, and I had the honor to
close the event with the song “Let it Go” (chosen by the
audience) from the Disney hit, “Frozen”.

The four judges (Peter Kjenaas, Crystal Adama, Desirae
Peterson, Jenna Krawczyk) took a minute to decide the
three winners who would take home the $100, $50 and
$25 cash awards.
Destiny Abreu's original song "Wars" touched on the
subject of unattainable beauty standards set by our
modern society and thus, creating wars upon ourselves.

Elijah Cordova's charming and charismatic performance

As the organizer and host of the Talent Show I would

your help we were able to put on this great show and
celebrate the talented youth of our community.

Community Worship with gifted Pastor
Ron Vietti
On Sunday, August 3, at 10 a.m. a variety of local
churches (Calvary Chapel, Centered in Christ, Crossway
Bible Church, Frazier Mountain Community Church,
Frazier Park Vineyard, Greater Mountain Pentecostals,
Home Church of Frazier Park, Pine Mountain Christian
Community Church, South Kern Christian Church) had
invited their members and the public to attend the first
“Worship in the Park” at the Fiesta Days. Despite
pouring rain, more than 300 people showed up.
The service started with a variety of modern worship
songs played by an amazing ensemble of seven
musicians from local churches (from Calvary Chapel:
Ann on guitar and vocals, Lorrie on vocals and Michael
on drums; from Vineyard Christian Fellowship: Mark on
guitar; from Frazier Mountain Community Church:
Sherri on Vocals; from Shepard of the Mountains
Lutheran Church: Walt on guitar and vocals and Pam on
Bass).

The tent in the park was filled to capacity with some
people even standing outside in the rain

Pastor Ron Vietti captivating the audience

Pastor Ron is without any doubt a very gifted and
experienced speaker, but his honesty and sincerity about
his beliefs in God and Christianity made his message so
credible. Would any other Pastor acknowledge that
“some of the worst people are Christians” but “that
doesn’t make Christianity wrong”? Everyone could see
from his interactions with a variety of people before, and
particularly after the service, that he lives what he
preaches.
Ron Vietti pioneered Valley Bible Fellowship in
Bakersfield with ten teenagers back in 1974. The Church
has grown to over 10,000 members today. See Pastor
Ron Vietti's invitation to his Valley Bible Fellowship
Church in Bakersfield:

or his thoughts on developing on Healthy Habits:

Afterwards Pastor Ron Vietti from Valley Bible
Fellowship in Bakersfield delivered his message. He
talked about happiness, failures and success in life which
are not the result of what we have, but rather of how we
live and whether we have faith in God.
Pastor Ron included a variety of personal stories and
experiences from his own life, the good, the funny, and
the bad. He described situations everyone can relate to
and apply in life. Speaking from his heart he says God
shows up every time. His unconventional and candid
worship style seemed to reach the hearts and minds of
everyone in the audience.
