WHAT’S HAPPENING
From 6am on Sunday 30th November 2014, the toll booths at the QE2 Bridge / Dartford
Tunnels will no longer be used to collect payments to use the bridge/tunnels.

The Highways Agency have said that removing the toll booths and getting users to pay in
advance or by midnight the following day, will reduce congestion in the area and ease the
flow of traffic.

Although these changes take place from Sunday 30th November, works begin on Friday
28th November to remove the existing toll booths, reconfigure the road layout so that four
lanes will run in both directions, and new traffic control measures will be introduced for
restricted vehicles wanting to use the Dartford Tunnel. During these works there’ll be
temporary speed limits and lane restrictions, all of which will be clearly signed for drivers.

Traffic approaching the Dartford Tunnel (Northbound/Anticlockwise) will still see the use
of the existing toll barriers to stop restricted vehicles from accessing it. If using the QE2
Bridge (Southbound/Clockwise), barriers will be removed more quickly as there are fewer
restrictions for vehicles using the bridge.

DART CHARGE
With the removal of the toll booths comes a new way of paying to use the QE2 Bridge and
Dartford tunnel. Similar to the Central London Congestion Charge, users will either be able
to pay in advance, or by midnight of the following day.
Drivers will be able to pay online, by phone, by post or at ‘payzone’ retail outlets. Another
option is that drivers can set up a Dart Charge pre-pay account which may offer discounts
of up to one-third for every crossing
If you already have a ‘DART-Tag’, then you will not need to set up an account as you will be
contacted on how to change to Dart Charge.
From Sunday 30th November, there’ll also be an increase in the charge to use the QE2
Bridge and Dartford Tunnel:
