Kathryn Long 'Kitty' Hyde
Kathryn Long "Kitty" Hyde, 76, of Hartshorn Drive, Candler, formerly of
Franklin, passed away Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, at St. Joseph Campus, Mission
Hospitals, Asheville.
A native of Macon County, she was a daughter of the late Paul E. and
Gertrude Brown Long. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 57
years, Senator Herbert Lee Hyde, who died in 2006.
A graduate of Franklin High School, Mrs. Hyde was a servant of Christ who
dedicated her life to her church, her husband and her children. She was the
first female deacon at Calvary Baptist Church in Asheville, where she was a
member for more than 50 years and served on numerous committees. She
held various offices with the Democrat Women's Club of Buncombe County
and was a founding member of the Good Neighbors Club.
Survivors include four daughters, Deborah Hyde (Sam) Cannon, Dale Lynn
(Steve) Wheeler, Dr. Karen Hyde (Dr. Bill Danaher) Weissman, Jane Hyde
Kordish (Captain Adam Kordish); two sons, Benjamin Wesley Hyde and
William Garrett Hyde; three sisters, Iris Wamsley, Glenda Hunsucker and
Linda Long; five grandchildren, Charles Herbert Hyde Cannon, Joseph
Garrett Weissman, Leonard Vance Hyde Cannon, David Hunter Hamerick
and Amanda Lucy Hamerick.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Calvary Baptist Church, with Rev. Donald N.
Welborn officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 531 Haywood Rd., Asheville,
NC 28806.
Groce Funeral Home, Patton Avenue, Asheville, is assisting with arrangements.
