International Students to NIU. That brings our total
International Student population to over 1000 with
more than 70 countries represented!

Chinese New Year Chinatown Trip
Sat. Feb 14, 9:30­5:30
Take a day trip out to Chicago's Chinatown to gear
up for the Chinese New Year. All International
Students and friends are welcome, but space is
limited to first 42 students. Cost is $15. Email Liz at
etoure@niu.edu to reserve your seat ($15 will be
charged to your student account at time of
reservation). Only NIU students and staff allowed.

Southeast Asia Club Lunar New Year
Thurs. Feb 19, 6­8 pm; Cole Hall
Come on out and bring in the Lunar New Year. Open
to Campus and Community. See the flyer for the
schedule of activities. 

ISFO Bowling ­ Thurs. Feb 26 5:30­7:30pm
Huskies Den, Holmes Student Center 
Pay only $5 at the door to get unlimited access to
bowling and billiards. Bring your friends and meet
new ones. Everyone is welcome!

Job Corner
Work Regulations and Career Resources
OPT Application Period Opens Feb. 15th
Optional Practical Training is for students who have

graduated in good academic standing and grants
them one year to stay in the US and work in their
field of study. If you are graduating in May 2015,
you can start applying for OPT on February 15.
Come into our office to get the instructions.
On­Campus Work
Everyone can work on campus! Once you get an on
campus job, come to our office and we can help you
with the process of getting a Social Security Card.
Search for on campus jobs here. Remember, work is
limited to 20 hours per week.
Career Resource Center
Take advantage of this great campus resource
(Campus Life 235). You can attend free workshops
on resume building, interviewing and job searches.
Check it out here.
Do I need a Social Security Number?
If you have a job, you need a social security number.
For instructions on how to apply for a social security
number, read here. If you want a driver's license,
you either need a social security number ­OR­ proof
that you are ineligible for a social security number.

Student Spotlight
International Students and Alumni

Meet Jiang Yi aka Tina
Tina hails from Beijing, China and is a senior in the
field of Operations Management and Information
Systems (OMIS). She has worked on campus
throughout her time at NIU, and for the past two
years she has been a student worker in ISFO. Tina is
now in the stressful final semester, concurrently
applying to OPT, searching for jobs and trying to
stay on top of her full load of coursework. If she's
not at home or the 3rd floor of the library studying,
you may find her at her favorite American
restaurant, Noodles & Company. Her advice to
fellow international students is, "Don't be scared" ­
dare to meet new people and try new things!
