Organizer  Activity  (Local,  National,  Global)

Students  will  be  split  into  groups  of  4-‐5.
Each  group  of  4-‐5  will  be  given  a  piece  of  chart  paper  and  markers  as  well  as
a  natural  hazard  (e.g.,  earthquakes,  hurricanes,  landslides,  etc.).

In  each  group  students  will  be  expected  to  complete  4  tasks:

1. Describe  the  characteristics  of  the  natural  hazard  and  some  of  the  potential
impacts  the  natural  hazard  may  have  on  human  activities.

2. Categorize  the  potential  impact  of  the  natural  hazard  as  local,  national,  or
global  (may  fit  into  more  than  1  category).

3. Justify  why  you  have  chosen  to  categorize  the  natural  hazard  in  local,
national,  or  global  (or  more  than  one  if  applicable)

4. Groups  will  present  their  chart  paper  to  the  class.  The  chart  paper  will  then
be  posted  on  the  walls  of  the  classroom  for  the  remainder  of  the  unit.
