MENTORING KICKOFF CHECKLIST
Getting to know each other and aligning expectations are critical activities to
establish a successful partnership. Use the checklist below to ensure you’re
covering off all the items we recommend during your initial call.
☐ PARTNERSHIP INTRODUCTION
Introduce yourself to your partner by identifying your unique
experiences, background, and interests and discuss what you have in
☐ ESTABLISH PARTNERSHIP GUIDELINES
Discuss the mechanics of your partnership and the expectations you’ll
have of each other. Some sample questions to consider are:
o How often will you meet?
o How will you meet (e.g., phone, WebEx, etc.)?
o Will the mentee supply an agenda before each meeting? What
should be included?
o How often will you communicate between meetings?
☐ SHARE YOUR GOALS AND IDENTIFY MEASURES FOR SUCCESS
Communicate your focus areas and discuss specific goals.
Make sure that you’re aligned on the goals you’re working towards and
start to lay out the way you’ll measure progress and hold each other
☐ SCHEDULE YOUR SECOND MONTH’S MEETING
Before you get off of this kickoff call get something on the calendar for
next month, and agree to a set of actions that you’ll both take in the
