Ways to Incorporate the Bookworm
Switch
• It can be used with students that have a reading
disability. Instead of having the student read the
entire book on his/her own, he/she can follow along
while he/she listens to the story.
• It can also be used with students that are visually
impaired. They can listen to the story instead of
reading it.
• The teacher can also record which sections he/she
wants the students to focus on. This can be a way to
scaffold instruction.

Ways to Incorporate the Bookworm
Switch
• Additionally, teachers can use the bookworm switch
to have the students listen to the story while she
walks around and monitors that they are following
along. This way, the teacher is better able to make
sure that students are task while they still listen to
the story.
• Lastly, the teacher can also have students with
special needs listen to the audio with headphones as
extra practice, after already hearing it once from the
teacher.
