Executive Summary
The Hiroshima Cranes Australian Football Club is an Australian Football team that
was established in the city of Hiroshima in 2014. The club was established through
the support of the international football community as well as passionate
expatriates who have a keen interest in promoting Australian sporting culture to the
people of Hiroshima.
The club was named the Cranes out of respect to the people of the city of
Hiroshima. The story of Sadako and the 1000 paper cranes, and the symbolism of
the paper crane as an international symbol of peace is a strong image for our club.
The playing list is currently made up of Japanese, American, Papua New Guinean,
New Zealand and Australian players and a key to our identity will be participation by
people from all parts of the world.
The following document will explain in more detail the short and long term goals of
the Hiroshima Cranes Australian football club, what we are doing to try and achieve
those goals, and what kind of support we are seeking to help us get there.

概要
広島クレインズオーストラリアンフットボールクラブ（以下クラブと呼ぶ）
は、オーストラリアンフットボールの一チームとして、2014 年広島の地に誕
生しました。
クラブは、インターナショナルフットボールコミュニティーの支援の下、
オーストラリアのスポーツカルチャーを広島の人々に広めたいという熱意を
持つ者達により結成されました。
平和都市広島に拠点を置くチームとして、クラブの名前を「クレインズ＝
鶴」とし、千羽鶴の貞子像や平和の象徴として世界に広く知られている折り
鶴をクラブのシンボルにしました。
現在クラブのメンバーは、日本、アメリカ、パプアニューギニア、ニュー
ジーランド、そしてオーストラリアの多国籍の選手が所属しており、いつで
も世界中の国の人が参加できる環境になっています。
次項より広島クレインズオーストラリアンフットボールクラブの今後の目標
と将来的な展望、クラブの発展に向けてどのように活動していくかの説明と
どのようなご支援を要しているかについて述べさせていただきます。

Australian Football in Japan
Australian football was first played in Japan by visiting students in the early 1900s.
According to the archives of the Australian War Memorial, a game of football was
played in Kure in 1946 between British and Australian troops assisting with the
reconstruction of the city after the dreadful events of August 1945. It wasn't until
1986, however, that football really began to develop in Japan.
In 1986, two professional teams from the Australian Football league participated in
an exhibition match in Tokyo, attracting over 11,000 spectators. From here, teams
quickly developed in Keio and Waseda Universities. Since then, teams have been
established in Komazawa, Senshu and Shonan Universities. Several other teams
which cater to both expats and locals have also been established in Tokyo, Osaka and
Nagoya.
There are currently ten teams participating in the Japanese Australian Football
League. Until 2013,
8 teams participated in a national competition, but from 2014 the teams were
divided into Eastern and Western Divisions. The Western Division currently consists
of three teams and the Eastern Division consists of eight. In the last three years, four
new teams have been established in Japan, and Australian football is rapidly growing
in popularity.

日本におけるオーストラリアンフットボール
1900 年代初頭、日本への交換留学生により日本に初めて オーストラリアン
フットボールが紹介されました。オーストラリア戦争記念館によると、フッ
トボールの試合は、1945 年 8 月の恐ろしい出来事の後に街の復興を支援する
英国軍とオーストラリア軍との間で、1946 年に呉で行われました。その後は
1986 年まで何もありませんでしたが、フットボールは日本で徐々に浸透して
いきました。 1986 年には、オーストラリアンフットボールリーグの 2 つのプ
ロチームが東京でのエキシビジョンマッチに参加し、1 万人以上を魅了しま
した。以降、慶應義塾大学と早稲田大学でチームが形成されました。その後
は駒沢大学、専修大学と湘南大学で形成されています。日本人や日本在住の
外国人で構成されるその他のチームは東京のみならず、大阪、名古屋にもあ
ります。 日本オーストラリアンフットボールリーグに参加するチームは現在
10 チームあります。 2013 までは 8 チームが全国大会に参加しましたが、
2014 年からはチームを東日本と西日本に分けました。西日本は、現在 3 チー
ムで構成され、東日本は 8 チームで構成されています。ここ 3 年間で、 4 つ
の新しいチームが設立され、オーストラリアンフットボールは急速に人気が
高まっています。

Organisational structure
The Hiroshima Cranes will be a paid member of the Western Division of the
Japanese Australian Football League and a paid member of AFL Asia. Membership in
these organisations will allow us to compete in football events against teams from
both Japan and other countries within Asia.
Specific people will be asked to assist the club as required during its formation,
however no person will take any specific leadership titles. Through an egalitarian
approach to the formation of the club, we hope to be able to attract a plethora of
players, sponsors, assistants and supporters to our team.

組織について
広島クレインズは、日本オーストラリアンフットボールリーグの西日本リー
フの公式メンバー且つ、 AFL Asia（オーストラリアンフットボールリーグア
ジア）の公式メンバーです。
これらの組織の公式メンバーの一員として、日本やアジア各国のチームと試
合を行い、競い合っています。
現在はクラブの形成を確実な物にする為に、必要に応じ数人が運営に尽力し
ていますが、特に特定のリーダーなどタイトルは定めていません。
クラブの編成においては全員が平等であるという考えの下、たくさんのプ
レーヤー、スポンサー、アシスタントそしてサポーターを惹きつける事がで
きるよう願っています。

Club Goals
– Introduce Australian football to as many new people in Hiroshima as possible
– Share Australian culture with as many non Australians as possible
– Provide an avenue for Australians to experience and spread their culture in
Japan
– Develop the strength of the Hiroshima Cranes Football Club
– Compete in matches against teams from within Japan and other nations
– Start new clubs in universities within Hiroshima prefecture
– Run clinics for children within Hiroshima to promote the sport, the culture and
healthy lifestyles
– Support the establishment of new teams in other Western Japanese cities
– Provide avenues for local athletes to represent Japan in international
competitions
– Support the long term goals of the Japanese Australian Football League

トを開催する
ー西日本エリアの他の都市での新チームの創設を支援する
ー地元の選手が日本代表として国際大会の代表に選ばれる道を与える
ー日本オーストラリアンフットボールリーグ（JAFL）の発展を支える

Club Events
Spring matches in West Japan:
We are planning to participate in Spring matches in both Osaka and Nagoya. These
matches will count towards a final ranking to decide the top teams within the
Western Division.
ANZAC Day event in Hiroshima:
On April 25th, the first major Australian football event in history will be held in
Hiroshima. Teams will travel from Osaka, Tokyo and Nagoya to participate. April 25th
(ANZAC Day) is Australia and New Zealand's most important national occasion. It
marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New
Zealand troops during WW1. 2015 is the 100 year anniversary of this event. On this
day, Australians and New Zealanders around the world pay respect to those who
gave the ultimate sacrifice, and also reflect on the different meanings of war.
Respectful ceremony will be a key part of this event. This match will be played at
Higashi Hiroshima Sports Park and locals will be encouraged to sit in the 2000 person
capacity grandstand.
Autumn matches in West Japan:
The second leg of matches in West Japan will be played in Autumn in Osaka, Nagoya
and Hiroshima. A final ranking for Western Japan will be tabulated based on the
results of this final round of matches.
Hosting Australian amateur team – Box Hill Hawks:
In October, the Box Hill Hawks from Melbourne, Australia will be touring Japan. They
will participate in the Japan Cup and will be in Hiroshima the next weekend to play
against and with local athletes. They aim to hold football clinics in as many schools
within the cities they visit as possible.
National finals and East v West conference game:
As the Western Japanese league is only in its infancy, an exact plan has not been
formulated, but the strongest team in West Japan will be given some sort of
opportunity to participate in a national finals series. It is also highly likely that a
representative team of the best players in West Japan will face off against the best
players from the Eastern league.

International representation:
Japan is represented in the Asian Australian football championships, a tournament
held annually, and at the International Cup, an event held every three years in
Australia. The IC is limited to Japanese nationals only, however non Japanese are
allowed to participate in the Asian championships. Last year, the Asian
Championships was held in the Philippines and the year before that it was held in
Thailand. The last International Cup was held in 2014 in Melbourne. Japan won three
games and lost two. The next will be in 2017.
Kids events:
Australian football clinics for children, supported by the global Auskick initiative will
be held in Hiroshima city. These events will be coordinated by members of the club
and will be marketed as community events.
Practice matches/trainings:
Practice matches and training sessions will be held at regular intervals in Hiroshima
City and its surroundings. These sessions will be held at various locations including
universities in order to introduce the game to as many new people as possible.
Social events:
Social events will be a key part of the development of the club. Players, sponsors,
assistants and supporters will be given the chance to mix with people from a range
of different cultures. Events will potentially include such activities as sakura viewing
parties, camping trips, various teamwork oriented outdoor activities, award parties
and after match functions.

Spring matches in West Japan: 西日本スプリングマッチ
春には大阪と名古屋で行われるスプリングマッチに参加する予定です。
この試合は西日本のトップチームを決定する為の最終のランキングに影響し
ます。
ANZAC Day event in Hiroshima: アンザックデー in 広島
4 月 25 日、史上初となるオーストラリアンフットボールイベントが盛大に広
島で開催されます。大阪、東京、名古屋から各チームが参加する予定です。
4 月 25 日（ アンザックデー/ ANZAC Day）はオーストラリアとニュージーラン
ドにとってはとても重要な日で、4 月 25 日は第一次世界戦争へオーストラリ
ア軍とニュージーランド軍が参戦した記念日です。 2015 年はちょうど 100 周
年の節目を迎えます。この日、世界各地のオーストラリア人とニュージーラ
ンド人は、この戦いの多くの犠牲者へ敬意を払い、戦争がもたらすさまざま
な意味について熟考します。祈念式典をこのイベントでも行います。この試
合は 2000 人収容可能な東広島運動公園で行われます。
Autumn matches in West Japan: オータムマッチ in 西日本
西日本での第二試合は、大阪、名古屋、広島で、秋に開催されます。
西日本リーグの最終的な順位はこの最終ラウンドの結果に基づいて集計され
ます。

西日本リーグは発足したばかりである為、まだ確実な計画ではありませんが
西日本リーグにおいてトップとなったチームが、国内の決勝戦に参加する機
会を検討しています。また、シーズンオフには西日本リーグのトップ選手に
よる代表チームと東日本リーグのトップ選手による代表チームと試合を行う
ことも予定しています。
