INTRODUCTION (Important to read this first)
It is our hope in the movement of restoration of the Bible as absolute and final
authority, that you will enjoy reading this book and assist in sharing it freely
and at no charge via the internet. There is no hidden motive other than the
motivation of groups and individuals to spend time studying their Bible.
The purpose is to reveal some characteristics of the triune God as revealed in
the Bible and how that affects our relationship with God.
While the book is not basic it is very possible to work through it in a short
period. The very nature of the subject is such that no book on it can be
exhaustive. I implore all readers to take the trouble to read the scripture
references that are quoted as these truly make the subject matter come alive.
There are no “new” revelations and Biblical truth is expounded in a simple
way. The book is only 50 pages long but take it slowly and as I will repeat
again read every Bible text reference. It is essential.
There is a Bible study series available with the same title. To receive it
contact the author.
The author is also available for presentations on this subject and also others
such as God and nature, the Christian and climate change, evangelism,
missions awareness and others. Workshops and seminars on how to start and
maintain Bible studies.
Under no circumstances may this book or any other material be sold or
any profit made from it. Free distribution is allowed and encouraged.
Shalom, Love and peace in Christ

THE STUDY OF GOD AND THE BIBLE
Quotations from the Bible and books are indicated by an abbreviation in bold
letters. To identify the Bible translation or book please go to the Bibliography
at the end of the book.
The last three to four hundred years Christianity has suffered from a slow but
certain infiltration of liberation theology, philosophy and humanism as well
plainly dangerous and ungodly ideas. The last century has seen the most tragic
development of this tendency. The question that must be asked is; “Has God
changed?”. The obvious answer is an emphatic no. People have changed. The
Bible is still the Bible and God is still the same God.
Human society has developed the philosophy that in a rapidly advancing and
changing world God also needs to be “updated”.
This is certainly untrue. There will be no new revelation in this book but
rather a return to original Bible truth. There is no new knowledge of God, no
new Bible books found, nothing new in fact. The Bible as written by around
40 plus authors and contributors over a period of approximately 2000 years is
complete, perfect and without shortcomings.
Some very authoritative books on the subject have already been widely
published by authors like Jonathan Edwards, A.W. Tozer, Martin Luther,
Philip Schaff, Andrew Murray and many others. Technology has made it
possible to write up short compilations of available knowledge in modern and
simple English and distribute these works freely over the internet. Such books
as this one are short, to the point and can be read in less time, and are of
course free. We are also prohibited by copyright to distribute many great
books for free and the older books that have copyrights that lapse are often
difficult to read due to their age and language.
This is what the LORD says: "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the
ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest
for your souls. But you said, 'We will not walk in it.' I appointed watchmen

over you and said, 'Listen to the sound of the trumpet!' But you said, 'We will
not listen.' (Jeremiah 6:16-17, NIV)
There can be no science more important to modern man than studying God
and His Word, the Bible. If you want to know something about any product
you have to go to the designer and manufacturer. When you want to
understand yourself and your life you likewise have to go to the Designer and
Creator of mankind. There are some principles to understand first and take
cognisance of.
You cannot learn absolutely everything about any product you are studying
and also that product does not fully tell you everything about its designer and
manufacturer. In the same way you cannot study a fish and say now I know
what God is like. The product is never the true reflection of the creator. You
cannot even study the whole of creation and from that deduce what God is
like. It will leave you with a very distorted view of God. God knows this and
does want us to be in relationship with Him and understand the purpose of our
own creation. For this very reason God has given us the Bible as the revelation
of Himself to us.
The next problem is that knowledge will get you only so far. God is a person
and we are too. God is a mighty spiritual being and much of God remains a
mystery to us in the physical world. Yet God has made the seemingly
impossible, possible, by not only revealing himself to us in the Bible but by
the physical life, death and resurrection of God the Son, Jesus Christ. It has
always been God‟s desire to have a real and living relationship with every
human being. To have a real and meaningful relationship with a person we
must get to know that person.
You can read a biography on someone and still not know them. You will
know something about them which is not the same thing. This is so

important that we will spend some time to make sure we all really understand
this point.
Reading the Bible is the same. You will land up
with a lot of knowledge about God but with no
relationship with God. By studying God‟s Word
study of God. Bible
the result is the growth of the relationship
reading is knowledge
between you and God. Big difference. It may
be that you only want to read the Bible and do
about God
not wish a relationship with God. We must
acknowledge that we will then never have a relationship with God. Reading
and studying is not the same thing. The two go hand in hand. Revelation
knowledge through study, and relationship with God. To put it differently. It is
better to have a little knowledge of God than to have a lot of knowledge about
God.
Bible study is the

This may not be the best illustration of this complex issue but here goes. A
sports commentator who has never played soccer may have a lot of knowledge
about the game. A good amateur player of soccer however has a different
experience. He is a participant and not a spectator, even if his knowledge is
less than that of the commentator and it might not be. The player has
knowledge of the sport and the commentator knowledge about the sport.
God expects us to be participants (players) in relationship in Him and not
spectators. The test will not be what we knew of life but how we lived as God
wanted us to. Then Bible study becomes an awesome experience where God is
real and speaks to the believer through the Holy Spirit.
A number of recent lecturing theologians with doctorate degrees in theology
just don‟t get this simple message. A few here in South Africa have openly
gone so far as to say that the Bible is a book about God but not the Word of

God. To them the Bible is just a lot of words written by people about God.
Then the Bible is dead and useless and belongs in the dustbin or amongst the
books in our library on philosophy. If we don‟t believe that God speaks to
each one of us uniquely and specifically through the Bible we are wasting our
time. Fortunately I can tell you from personal experience that the Bible is
God‟s love letter to every believer. It is as personal as if it was written for each
one of us specifically. It is a miracle as we would expect from a God who is
limitless and perfect.
It is my hope that every reader of this book is already living in relationship
with Christ through the Holy Spirit. If not, it is my hope that this book will
allow the Holy Spirit to make it true in your life and that you will experience
the ultimate joy and peace God planned for you. May God speak to you
through the Word.

GOD IS INCOMPREHENSABLE
If we cannot understand God then we don‟t have to read the rest of the book,
right? Actually we should say that we cannot fully understand God. God has
revealed himself and lets us see how and why. First of all God revealed
himself in history by visions, dreams, appearances and messengers – prophets
and angels. Then God wrote the Old Testament. The Holy Spirit inspired
people to write, and even as they did this they were unaware that they were
actually writing the Bible. Only years after each book was written was it it
taken up into what today is known as the Bible. God carefully weaved the
Bible together to reveal as much of himself as we could understand.
With the New Testament the revelation was completed. The Bible is not first
of all about us – about people. We are only actors in the book that is really all
about God and his interaction with us.

Let us look at some rules. The created can never fully understand the Creator.
The created are of necessity less than the Creator. The Creator put something
of Himself in the created but did not re-invent Himself in us. It also helps not
to say God is like....... . God is not like anything else. God the Father, Son and
Holy Spirit is very unique and one of a kind.
“Can you by searching find out God? Can you find out the limits of the
Almighty? “They are as high as heaven. What can you do? They are deeper
than Sheol. What can you know? “Its measure is longer than the earth and
broader than the sea. (Job 11:7-8, DTB).
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in their
hearts so that no man can find out the work that God has done from the
beginning to the end. (Eccl 3:11, DTB).
Also read Job 26:14, Psalm 145:3, Isa 40:28, Rom 11:32-36.
We can therefore not make a thorough study of God and say “well now we
know God”. It is not possible to fully know God while in human form in this
physical world. This is the wonder of the Bible. God through the Bible does
reveal to each of us at our own level and to our own intellectual
understanding, enough of Himself for us to come into a relationship in Christ.
Let me emphasize, not everything about Himself, but everything essential in
such a way that every individual has some essential and correct understanding
of who God is and His plan of salvation. If more was revealed I believe we
would not have been able to understand it anyway. (2 Tim 3:16-17).
There is one fundamental truth about God that we will never understand yet
we have no choice but to accept it. To reject it is to to reject the Bible. To
accept it means a lot of people might think you are delusional. Many, many
“Christians” and “Christian” leaders reject the Trinity today. They say it is
