THE ASCLEPIAN VOICE
THE OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF THE ORDER OF ASCLEPIUS : WEST VISAYAS STATE UNIVERSITY—COLLEGE OF MEDICINE

APRIL 20, 2015

VOLUME 1 ISSUE NO. 12

L

eo C. Rosten once said that
the purpose of life is to be
useful, to be responsible,
to be honorable, and to be
compassionate. It is, after all, to
matter, to count, to stand for
something, to have made some
difference that you lived at all. This
summer,
under its banner of
brotherhood, medicine and service,
the resident members of the Order of
Asclepius continued to put their skills
into good use as they offered their
services to the circumcision drive
organized by the Rotaract Club of
Bacolod North last April 18, 2015 held
at the St. Therese Parish, Brgy 35,
Bacolod City.
The Rotary Club of Bacolod North
holds this annual social service project
entitled Busog-Himsog Operation Tuli.
With priority given to malnutrition, this
event, which is composed of a feeding

program and a circumcision drive,
primarily aims to cater the barangay
which has the highest number of
malnutrition rate in the city. For the
second year in a row, Brgy. 35 was
chosen to be the recipient of the
feeding program. On the other hand,
three other barangays (Brgy. 16,
Brgy. 34, and Brgy. 36) alongside
Brgy. 35 became recipients of the
surgical mission, which the resident
members participated in.
Over
70
children
were
successfully circumcised during this
half-day event. “The Order of
Asclepius has been instrumental in the
success of this activity for five years
now.” said Rotaract Club of Bacolod
North President, Mr. JB Niño Barredo.
He adds that he in behalf of the
Rotaract Club of Bacolod North is
looking forward to more partnerships
in the future.

Other partnering organizations that
offered their resources to this said
event were Hablon Toastmasters Club Iloilo, spearheaded by Dr. Anastacio
Rufon (Batch 11) and Phoenix
Philippines Foundation, Inc, led by
their Corporate Affairs Officer, Mr.
Serafin Bernardo.
The
Phoenix
Philippines
Foundation, Inc., which has advocacies
for education, health and safety, and
the environment, has expressed
interest in partnering with the Order of
Asclepius. In the said partnership, the
foundation will provide financial or non
-financial resources to support the
Order’s future activities while the
Order will provide manpower to the
foundation’s activities related to their
corporate social responsibility. The
signing of the Memorandum of
Understanding (MOU) is expected to
take place on June, 2015 in Iloilo City. #
