Al Bawaba is an online syndicated news organization that prides itself on providing firstrate coverage of news and events in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) from a
local perspective. The site represents the largest resource for aggregated local content –
in English and Arabic – within the MENA region.
The Job:
Al Bawaba’s English Editors have a passion for staying up-to-the-minute with breaking and
trending news, a creative flair – particularly for headlining – and a journalist’s drive to
publish news and human interest articles from syndicated content on the Al Bawaba
English website. Our Editors also have the opportunity to write and byline original content
as agreed by the Editor in Chief.
The Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
finding and publishing syndicated news, editor’s choices, slideshows and behind the
news content regularly throughout their shift;

re-writing, aggregating and publishing news content to create original Al Bawaba
articles;
selecting images to complement stories independently or with our multimedia editor;
researching and writing original content for publishing on the Al Bawaba website, as
agreed by the Editor in Chief;
supporting editorial decisions with researched suggestions and robust debate;
contributing to headlines with sound judgment and a creative flair; and
adapting to any task as requested by the Editor in Chief.
The Requirements:
The successful applicant must:
speak and write English with native proficiency;
have a passion for staying up-to-the-minute with breaking and trending news;
be experienced in Middle Eastern political and current affairs;
have sound judgment regarding what is and is not news and the instinct to pursue
reporting further when there may be more to the story;
have a creative flair for writing;
be a team player;
be based in Amman, Jordan;
be available for night and weekend shifts; and
if a working visa is required, commit to a two-year tenure.
The Desired:
It is desired, but not required, that the successful applicant:
have previous journalism experience;
be fluent in Arabic; and
understand Hebrew and/or French.
The Salary:
This position will be paid at a monthly, local rate with local leave and working conditions.
