Star Wars 7 Storm Troopers Costume – modernising a classic
PINEWOOD STUDIOS had approached CADmate based on the niche specialist 3D
design and engineering capability required. Much of the Storm Trooper design concept
is ‘organic’, made to compliment the natural human body yet maintain a distinct
classic styling with a slight aggressive stance. Creating complex geometry in CAD
software is a feat of its own and capturing emotion is an even greater challenge for
any product styling.
An engineered costume of the future…
CADmate had successfully translated the unusual brief of designing a costume that
was organic and was able to be manufactured with present technology. The 3D CAD
model was heavily reliant on a bespoke method of modelling and required painstaking efforts to achieve the correct final result. Parts were to be injection moulded
and tolerances to match accordingly. Star Wars 7 is due for a UK release in 2015.
3D CAD MODELLING (COMPLEX ORGANIC) | MODEL MAKING | 3D PRINTING
CADmate were required to meet some highly pressured challenges and deadlines resolved to
our great satisfaction... the project was completed in good time. We look forward to using their
services again. Thank You!
