If you have a broken or chipped tooth that is not
the result of a recent trauma, Your dentist can
evaluate the tooth for possible treatment. It is still
important to have the tooth evaluated right away,
because in some situations a minor procedure now
can save you from a more significant procedure in
the near future!
A very small chip may be corrected by enamel
shaping. If the chip is a little larger, the best

options may be bonding or a veneer.
If the chip is on a molar, an onlay may be
appropriate. Large chips and fractured
teeth generally require a crown. If the
fracture involves the nerve, Root Canal
Therapy may be necessary before the tooth
is crowned. It is important to have a broken
tooth crowned before it becomes infected
or abscessed!

If you’re having a medical emergency, do not wait to contact us. Call 704.542.2325 and ask for
immediate help.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Whitening, also referred to as bleaching is a procedure which is designed to lighten the color of your
teeth. When done properly, whitening will not harm your teeth or gums. Significant lightening can be
achieved in the vast majority of cases, but the RESULTS CANNOT BE GUARANTEED. Whitening, like any
other treatment, has some inherent risks and limitations. These are seldom serious enough to
discourage you from having your teeth
whitened, but should be considered in
making a decision to have the treatment.

CANDIDATES FOR WHITENING
Just about anyone is a candidate for
whitening. However, people with dark
yellow or yellow-brown teeth tend to bleach
better than people with gray or bluish-gray
teeth. Multicolored teeth, especially if
stained due to tetracycline, do not bleach
very well. In addition, teeth with many
fillings, cavities, chips, etc., are usually best
treated by bonding, porcelain veneers, or
porcelain crowns.

Contraindications
Known allergies to carbamide peroxide
Pregnancy and nursing
Dental bleaching can be used to correct many tooth discolorations. These discolorations may have been
caused by staining, aging, or chemical damage to teeth. Using the latest in bleaching technology, we can
offer a safe method for creating a beautiful, “brilliant” smile. In cases of extreme tooth discoloration,
crowns or veneers may be the only choice. But because of the low cost of bleaching treatments,
bleaching is nearly always worth a try.

Other whitening systems don’t compare to the Zoom! Chair side Whitening System.
Nothing whitens better or faster.

Porcelain veneers are the most popular technique used for dramatic smile makeovers.

What are porcelain veneers?
Veneers are a thin, semi-translucent
laminate permanently bonded to your
teeth. While they’re not suitable for
every patient, veneers are the most
aesthetic alternative for a variety of
dental conditions involving the front
teeth, including:
Diastemas (spaces between teeth)
Broken or chipped teeth
Unsightly, stained, or washed-out
fillings
Permanently stained or discolored
teeth that can’t be bleached
Crooked teeth

What is a Crown?
A crown (also called a cap) is a man-made cover that
protects the tooth. It may be used to restore and
preserve decayed, broken or cracked teeth. Crowns can
also improve your overall appearance.
Why you may need a crown?

Your dentist may advise you to get a crown if you
have:
A decayed tooth that needs to be restored to its
normal shape and size
A cracked tooth with large cavities or worn
fillings
A poor-fitting crown
A root canal treated tooth

Types of Crowns
Metal:These are made of gold or other metals. It is very
strong and won’t break. Because this type isn’t tooth
colored, it may not be the best for a front tooth.
Porcelain: This is a tooth colored crown made of porcelain
or re-inforced resin. It comes in a range of shades to blend
with your other teeth. This type of crown may be more
likely to chip than a metal crown.
Combination: This is a porcelain fused to metal crown.
With porcelain on top re-inforced by metal in the inner
surface of the crown. The metal makes the base stronger
than a porcelain crown, but it is not as strong as a metal
crown.

What Is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root (synthetic material) that is surgically anchored into your jaw to
hold a replacement tooth, bridge or denture in place. The benefit of using implants is that they don’t
rely on neighboring teeth for support, they are permanent and stable. Implants are a good solution to
tooth loss because they look and feel like natural teeth.
Implant material is made from different types of metallic and bone-like ceramic materials that are
compatible with body tissue. There are different types of dental implants: the first is placed directly into
the jaw bone, like natural tooth roots; the second is used when the jaw structure is limited, therefore, a
custom-made metal framework fits directly on the existing bone.

Can anyone receive dental implants?
In order to qualify for implants, a consultation must be completed by your dentist. Because implants
require surgery, patients must be in good health, have healthy gums, have adequate bone to support
the implant and be committed to meticulous oral hygiene and regular dental visits. If you are
considering implants, a thorough evaluation by your dentist will help determine if you would be a good
candidate. If you suffer from chronic problems, such as clenching or bruxism, or systemic diseases, such
as diabetes, the success rate for implants decreases dramatically. Additionally, people who smoke or
drink alcohol may not be good candidates.
