Google Has Added “Humming Bird” To Its Search Engine Algorithm
Google has made many changes in its search engine algorithm by adding the new program
called,” Humming Bird”. The search engine algorithm aims at sorting out the information
available against a particular query from the user. The answers to such queries are sorted through
the trillions of webpage scanning, so that the reply matches the words mentioned in the query.
However, Google has added another dimension to this search engine activity by altering the
required algorithm with the addition of Humming Bird.
The name given by the company to this algorithm has significant meaning, as it relates to
searching of the answers for specific query in a way that is similar to the sharp and precise
finding of its prey by the humming bird. The bird is said to be very fast in identifying and
locating its object. Accordingly, the benefit of this change must be judged by the following

The new change is not a replacement for the old algorithm. However, it supplements the search
quality of Page Rank. Humming Bird still needs to use the Meta tags, key words and web page
quality, which are the inputs used by Page Rank. The new algorithm uses this information along

addition, the new algorithm does not just find answers for the words mentioned in the query, but
goes beyond it. This new change aims at getting to the meaning and essence of the query. For

How Humming Bird works?

available answers. However, with the new algorithm Google aims at understanding the actual
purpose of the user, as the query comes in. For example, putting a query for „apartments, homes
and houses‟ makes it confusing for the search engine to get the proper meaning of this query, as
there is a difference between a home and a house. Accordingly, the new algorithm will try to find
the replies for homes that match the buildings, where people reside. On the other hand the house
query will find answers that match all buildings, which may be lying vacant or under
construction. The combined query as given above will try to categorize the replies within these

will make the new algorithm successful.
