Position: Project Manager / Editor
for new project “Socially Just Economic Policies in the MENA Region”
1. Context
The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) is a German non-governmental, non-profit institution and
committed to the ideas and basic values of social democracy. With its projects in over 100
countries, the FES supports building and strengthening civil society and public institutions. The
FES Tunisia office cooperates with local partners in the areas of socio-economic development,
social dialogue, empowerment and political participation of women and youth, environment
and sustainability and international cooperation and dialogue.

2. Background
The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung will start a new project on the issue of socially just economic policies
in the MENA region. The aim of the project is to bring together a large group of economic
experts from all over the region. These experts will then develop an alternative vision for
economic policies in the MENA region in regards to some key subjects.
The project cycle is envisioned for 4 years (2016-2019). The project will be based in Tunis.

3. Responsibilities
Under the responsibility of the Project Director, the Project Manager/Editor will contribute to
the success of the project. He/she will identify relevant partners for cooperation, both in Tunisia
and the region. An important part of the work will be the conception and compilation of an
Online Journal on economic and social subjects (i.e. approaching authors, editing of texts,
coordination of translations, compilation of images etc.) and the linking up of the journal with
social media.

Key responsibilities include:
Management of an online platform dealing with the subject of the project
Production and procurement of relevant content for the online platform
Enabling/Enhancing the visibility of the project in social and traditional media in the MENA
region
Developing concepts for the visibility of the project
Organization and preparation of workshops with economic experts in Tunisia and the MENA
region
Preparation of reports
Editing and management of publications of the foundation and partners

4. Your Profile
We are searching experienced and enthusiast candidates, displaying strong conceptual skills,
creativity, and who are keen on developing this socio-economic project, eventually contributing
to an enhanced discourse on socio-economic policies in the region.

Academic background in economics, social or political science or journalism; a solid background
in economics would be an asset
3+ years of work experience in journalism, international organizations, project management or
academia
Fluent in Arabic (MSA) and English and French, German is an additional asset
Work experience with online media, editing, publication or consulting
Intercultural awareness and team spirit
Strong presentation and communication skills
Commitment to values of social democracy
Competent user of IT technologies and computer applications (i.e. Outlook, Word, PowerPoint,
Word press or other publishing tools)
Ability to travel in the MENA region and Germany

5. Terms and conditions
Location: FES Office in La Marsa, Tunisia
Start: January 1st, 2016. A probation period of six months applies.
Duration: Possibly extendable until December 31st, 2019.
Payment: Upon Agreement, depending on the candidate’s profile and experience.
