SKILL STATIONS

DONNING & LOW PROFILE
Objective: Complete donning and crawl under a vehicle/picnic table.
Procedure: Personnel will don gear, including SCBA, then proceed to crawl under a vehicle or picnic
table. When they reach the other side, they will stand and clap.

HITTING THE HYDRANT
Objective: Review hitting the hydrant.
Procedure: Give an overview of hitting the hydrant, reviewing procedures for forward lays and
reverse-lays (hand-jacking). Have personnel rotate through the process.

SEARCH
Objective: Demonstrate proficiency in search technique.
Procedure: Personnel will search in teams of two or three, conducting a primary of a hallway and two
simulated bedrooms. One of the bedrooms will contain a baby mannequin. Masks will be obscured with
Press-n-Seal.

LADDERS
Objective: Demonstrate proficiency in ladder climbing, roof sounding, rolling ladders.
Procedure: Two personnel at a time. One will climb the ladder with the other butting. Climber will
leg-lock about halfway up, lean back, then unlock leg and continue climbing to the roof. Climber will
sound the roof physically and verbalize, walk approximately 20’ across the roof. Butt-person will roll the
ladder to meet climber at the predetermined point and butt ladder. Climber will climb down.

RIT DEPLOYMENT
Objective: Demonstrate proficiency in use of RIT bag to get air to a downed firefighter.
Procedure: Crews will be told there is a downed firefighter out of air in the opposite bay (mannequin
with pack). Using the RIT pack, they will place the firefighter on air utilizing whichever method they
find appropriate. Masks will be obscured with Press-n-Seal.

RADIO COMMUNICATION
Objective: Show proficiency in radio communication.
Procedure: Crews will be given a fire scenario in a table-top style delivery and will give appropriate
benchmarks as the incident progresses.
