PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY - GSEP
PRESENT:
marcela polanco, Ph.D.
December 5, 2015 8:30AM- 5:00PM
AROUSING IMAGINATION IN NARRATIVE PRACTICE:
Storying the poetics of life
Workshop Description
Drawing on her Colombian heritage and an appreciation for local knowledge
over universal truth marcela will invite participants to consider the opportunities
that might be found in magical-realism. With the use of video and transcript she
will demonstrate what is possible in therapeutic dialogue by tuning into unique
expressions of life.
Participants will come away from this day-long workshop inspired to refresh
their practice by considering a new dialogic category: “the hybrid of the
magical-real” (polanco, 2010).
marcela was born in Bogotá, Colombia, land of her Muiscan ancestors. As a
mestiza, cisgender, immigrant woman in the U.S., she serves as an assistant
professor at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio/Yanaguana, Texas.
