LoAP Puzzlehunt 2015
Caesar's Box
Level 0: Introductory Puzzle

CAESAR'S BOX
Daniel Thomas

WELCOME to the sixth annual LoAP Puzzlehunt!
Yes, dear participant, it is that time of year again. Puzzlehunt 2015 will begin at Midday on December 6. The
rules are broadly the same as always, but for your convenience they are as follows:

One round of puzzles will be released at midday every 2 days from the starting date. Each round will
consist of 5 puzzles worth 5 points, and there will be 5 rounds. Three hints will be released for each
during the following rounds, reducing the value of each puzzle by one point each time.
Individual and team play are both acceptable, with no limits on team numbers. Each individual or team
must have an account on this site to compete
The puzzles will be made available on this site and as downloadable PDFs. Hints will be available on this
site. The directory can be found here
The puzzles will be ranked in difficulty from 1 to 5, with 1 the easiest and 5 being an encryption of the
most lethal cunning the puzzle masters can bring to bare. The exceptions to this rating system are the
introductory puzzle (difficulty 0) and the metapuzzle (difficulty M)
Solving the Metapuzzle will result in an automatic victory. Failing this, points awarded will be the
determining factor. The intro puzzle can be completed at any point before the end of the hunt for an
additional point.
Neither the introductory puzzle nor the 2015 metapuzzle will receive hints throughout the hunt
Metapuzzles from 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014 are still open for solving. A new hint for each will be
released on December 14.
Metapuzzles cannot be solved by previous hunt administrators who ran the hunt during that year:

Mr David Nowak is ineligible from solving the metapuzzles from 2010 and 2011.

Mr Thomas Diment is ineligible from solving the metapuzzle from 2012.
As of last year's rules, any former administrator who solves a metapuzzle is required to demonstrate a
basic explanation of its mechanics.
Answers must be submitted via the answer link in the top right corner of the site. Click on the round and
puzzle, then enter the answer as the password and post in the provided thread to claim your points.
Answers must be entered in lowercase without spaces, numbers or symbols. Names must be entered in
full (e.g. alberteinstein) rather than as nick names or initials unless otherwise provided in the puzzle (e.g.
if the puzzle specifically spells out einstein). 'A' and 'the' will be omitted from the start of names and titles
(e.g. clockworkorange, not aclockworkorange) unless explicitly provided in the puzzle
Rankings will be updated manually shortly after each round of puzzles and/or hints. It may also be
manually updated in between these scheduled points. As such, the rankings page, available via the link in
the top right of the site, may not be up to date at all times. Any team or individual that answers a puzzle
will be added to the rankings page
The puzzlehunt will be left open for solution for two weeks after the final round of hints are released.
After this the hunt will be closed and final scores announced.

We wish you well as you embark upon LoAP Puzzlehunt 2015,
Puzzle masters 2015,
Stephen D. and Daniel T.
