On Saturday, November 21, 2015, The Brampton
Board of Trade hosted its annual Santa Claus Parade.
Now in its thirty years plus of festive joy, was
forecasted to attract over 150,000 smiling faces.
As the floats were lining up behind the scenes, many
of the spectators were gathering and lining the streets
of the parade route hours before the start of the
parade. When the parade concluded, crowds of
children and parents alike walked towards to their
residences and walked passed the intersection of
Vodden and Main Streets.
Seeing as the big guy in the red suit and white beard
was the star of the parade, almost all the people spoke
of was the now famous guy in black. Yes, they all
spoke about Batman. Now known as the Brampton
Batman, despite attending towards the end of the
parade became the crowd favourite.
Did the superhero gain popularity over the longstanding tradition of Santa Claus?
I asked as they walked by, “did you see Santa Claus“?
Oh yes, they said, but I got to see Batman, he was
awesome, I took my picture with him, he’s great”. They
hardly said more than two words about the big guy in
red, but rambled on about meeting the “other” guy.
Batman, who is always eager to greet fellow crime
fighters, advised that he was debuting a new uniform for
the Parade. He said that a
quick glance would reveal
differences from his past one, as seen here above in an
archival photo. I think I see a new duty belt too, do you?
The Mississauga Santa Claus Parade, Sunday,
November 29th , now in its 41st year was to have
attracted 40,000 to 50,000 spectators. The bright and
sunny day drew more than just a crowd, as you can see
even the reindeer made their way to Mississauga.
