HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Dear Friends and Family,
A year ago you were reading our holiday letter with a marriage
announcement and romantic plans for adventure in the coming year.
And now for the much anticipated follow up and full report.
This year’s theme: Responsible Adult Decisions.
Despite resigning from his job to make time for traveling, as we
reported last year, Brian continued to work throughout the year.
While much less adventurous, it was a Responsible Adult Decision.
Keeping with the year’s theme, Alyson got a job, too. In September
she started working at the Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation for Health,
a nonͲprofit that promotes health and wellness in Idaho.
So, we continue to live well in our small house in Boise with our dogs
Cash and Nikki. When we start to feel reckless, we take the dogs to
the park without leashes. That’s against park rules, you know.
Still, due to the fact that we postponed our planned year of leisure,
instead of looking like this:
We look more like this:
Stress is a killer.
Of course, we still managed to have quite a bit of fun in 2011.
We took summer road trips through CA and MT/ND, visiting friends
and family. We threw two awesome wedding receptions in CA and
ND –probably the highlights of our year. Thanks to everyone who
came and/or helped!
We enjoyed, as always, the annual Memorial Day extravaganza in
Washington with Brian's family, and added a stop in Oregon to see
Alyson's family on the way.
And in October, we went to
Kauai for Alyson's sister's
wedding and spent almost two
weeks exploring the island.
We hiked the Kalalau Trail,
living off the land for three
days (aided by our stateͲofͲ
theͲart tent and generous
We enjoyed the great Idaho outdoors this year as well. Alyson
climbed her first peak – 12,000 ft Hyndman! On another trip, we got
lost for a night in the woods. That was the closest we came to serious
marital strife in our first year of marriage, but it was a good sign that
Brian convinced his (beautiful) understanding (beautiful) new wife to
try it all again the following day.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Things at home in Boise are good. To the surprise of no one, house
projects continued despite Brian's repeated claims that "project
phase is over."
The dogs are doing very well;
Brian and Cash are as close as
Unfortunately, this year we did
learn about Cash's struggle with
the bottle …
… We’re working through it as a
The girls are also doing great.
Nikki enjoys her semiͲannual spa
treatment (aka dog groomer). She
also got her first sweater this year!
In baby news, we racked up a new niece and nephew this year!
So that should hold the grandparents over for a while.
Alyson's brother Cole
came out to Boise in June
for his first visit by himself.
We fed him candy, took
him goͲkarting, and road
tripped to a casino in

Last, but certainly not least, on New Year’s Eve we will celebrate our
first anniversary! If the weather cooperates, we’ll be spending the
weekend in McCall, Idaho – one of our favorite places.
We hope you too had a fun and memorable (and Responsible) 2011,
and here’s to even more Adult Decisions in 2012!
All the best,
Brian, Alyson, Cash, and Nikki
