A Tale of Two Aarons
Lemons went through another dramatic relationship with another Aaron

The NFL Scouting Combine brings out the hottest takes across Twitter. Leming had to use this opportunity to
remind his followers that he was right about the Defensive Rookie of the Year last year, Aaron Donald.
Aaron Leming
@AaronLemingNFL

@Ejayjones3 after the past two days, he's my sure-fire #1 OLB going forward. I identified Aaron
Donald earlier than most last year 1/2

@Ejayjones3 but got idiotic the last month before the draft & talked myself out of him. Won't let that
happen again

What Aaron is saying in that second tweet is that he didn't like Aaron Donald before the draft, but once he found
out that Donald was really good, he went back to liking him. Thus, he can claim that he was one of the first to like
Donald, which I will soon show was also not true.
There is so much wrong with these two tweets, I'm not sure where to start. Before I get into how moronic his
scouting process was, let's take a look at Aaron's first claim. He "identified Donald earlier than most last year"
Here is Aaron's first tweet from last year in which he declared that he was team Aaron Donald

Holy crap... Aaron Donald, Sign me up. Gave him a better look today/tonight. This guy is un-real.
Undersized? A little. Productive? Majorly.

Prior to his proclamation, Leming was skeptical of Donald. February 7th:

@BoogaP Donald seems to be a pure 4-3, 3 tech to me. Size really limits what he can do. IMO

However, in typical Lemons fashion, it didn't take long to change that opinion. Jump back ahead to Februrary

Favorite prospect. How, Aaron, did you come to this conclusion so much "earlier than most"? He read his Twitter
timeline, just like everybody else.

prospect in his own right

September 2nd, 2013! Dane Brugler, the well-respected draft analyst for CBS Sports, reminded us that a lot of
people knew about Donald. In September. Almost 9 months before the draft.

6 months before the draft, and 4 months before Leming's revalation.
Even if Aaron wasn't following or paying close attention to those guys during the regular season, they continued
to put out the Aaron Donald praise on Leming's timeline in the offseason, before Aaron supposedly came to his
own opinion.

Even if somehow, some way Leming just happened to not see any of these tweets or any of the work that these
draft evaluators put out, there is still yet another way that Leming got his opinion: he asked.

Aaron Leming
@AaronLemingNFL

@MattEurich @sandreamy do you think Donald fits the pending scheme transition? I worry with his
size.
A YEAR AGO

Aaron Leming wasn't "earlier than most" on Aaron Donald. Dane Brugler, Matt Miller, Rob Rang, Dan Durkin, and
many others were. Even his current employer, Jeremy Stoltz, had it first. Aaron may have come to his own
opinion/conclusion on Donald, but he was not at the forefront by any means.
This does beg the question the question though, how did Aaron's opinion of Donald change, given all of the
positive information he received on Donald?

https://storify.com/LemonDrops/a-tale-of-two-aaron-s

Aaron Leming
@AaronLemingNFL

@Ejayjones3 but got idiotic the last month before the draft & talked myself out of him. Won't let that
happen again
3 MONTHS AGO

The problem had to occur in his scouting. Let's look at how scouting works in the real world versus Aaron
Leming's world.
Drastically changing your opinion on a prospect isn't how scouting works. Reputable evaluators (even the
amatuers) will watch a game of a guy and get a feel for him. Then they will take notes on as many other games as
they can get their hands on, and then formulate their opinion based on a player's body of work. Seems pretty
straight forward, right?
Let's take a look at how Aaron Leming scouted Aaron Donald. Someone got curious when Aaron "talked himself
out of him" and asked an honest question.
Mike D
@MikeDBears34

@Aaron_Leming when did u sour on Donald? U used to pray for the guy, no? Now u like hageman?
Why the change?
A YEAR AGO

Aaron Leming
@AaronLemingNFL

@MikeDBears34 I got a bit of a skewed view of Donald. Watched a highlight reel, then his games.
Got too excited
A YEAR AGO

So to be clear, Aaron Leming watched a highlight reel of Aaron Donald, then he tweeted out how much he loved
him and how Donald was his favorite prospect.
That's how Aaron Leming scouts. Then he watches actual games and uses his lack of football knowledge to
formulate an incorrect opinion on the player. Then when the player is actually good and Leming was wrong, he
can go back and use that highlight reel opinon, which was aided by real analysts, to say he was early on Donald.
Textbook Twitter manipulation, Aaron.
Read along for yourself. The following tweets are in chronological order. Pay attention to the dates on the tweets
and watch how Aaron's opinion of Donald goes full circle from February to May.
