A Note on Our Computers
You’ve probably noticed by now our construction project is well underway. During this most intense phase
of work, our adult computers are set up in what used
to be our quiet reading room. Space is a little tight for
now, but we assure you the end result, which will debut later this spring, will be worth the inconvenience.
We thank you for your continued patience.

DISCUSSION GROUPS

In the meantime, please note that you can check out
laptops on both floors to bring to somewhere quieter
or more spacious in the building. Several new, quiet
workspaces will soon be made available.

1,000 Books Before
Kindergarten
Join our all new 1,000 Books before
Kindergarten initiative! Parents are a
child’s first teachers, and reading to
babies and young kids helps them to be
successful in school. Register at the library to receive your log and a tote bag
filled with early literacy information.
Children can join anytime from birth to
age 5. For every 100 books completed,
come to the library for a prize!

30 minutes. Enjoy some one-on-one
time with our librarians. During your 30
minute session we can help you find just
the right books based on your interests
and abilities and help you begin to read

Computer Fun
45 minutes. Call us up to schedule an
appointment and tell us what you’d like
to learn about in the exciting world of
computers and technology! We have
several options, including basic computers, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, & the
Internet. We can also design a custom
class. Grades 2–5.

the dark toys are fun, but how do they

LEGO Pre-Engineering
Mini-Camp
Mon., Mar. 28 & Tues. Mar. 29,
9:30–10:30. Join us for a two-day
LEGO WeDo Robotics mini-camp! You
must attend both sessions. Grades 1–5.

Sheer Magic

display of magic, illusion, audience
participation and comedy during this

Wed., Apr. 6, 4:30–5:30. In this handson workshop we’ll learn about Raspberry Pi, an amazingly small computer that

Firetruck Frenzy

adult to explore the exciting world of
firetrucks. Enjoy snacks, games & even
a special visit from the Addison Fire
Department. Space is limited, so register

Machine Autopsy
Mon., Apr. 18, 3–4 & 4–5. Put on your
lab coat and start dissecting old laptops
and printers to learn what’s inside. All

Spanish/English story time! Have fun
listening to your favorite stories and enjoy some activities in Spanish. All ages
welcome; knowledge of Spanish is not

Spanish with Language Stars

drop-in. Language Stars teaches Spanish to children in a fun, engaging way

Room

the jelly bean is still a reminder that
spring is here! Come to the library and

Our Parent/Teacher Resource Room
is located on the first floor. It contains
a large AccuCut die-cutting machine, a
small laminator, and a trimmer. Bring
your supplies, check in, and get creative!

The Library Delivers!
Beginning in March, the library is
offering free home delivery services for
Addison Public Library cardholders. If
you or someone you know are unable
to come visit the library for four weeks
or longer and are interested in receiving library materials delivered to your
home, contact an Adult Specialist at
630.458.3320. We deliver books, magazines, older DVDs, music CDs, audiobooks, children’s items, and more!

School & Daycare Visits
The library can bring fun stories, songs,
crafts and more to your location! Call
630.458.3334 to schedule a visit in
English or Spanish.

Hello to New Staff!
We recently hired a new head children’s
librarian to replace Mary Marshall, who
retired. Louise Dimick comes to us from
Brookfield Public Library. Our former
intern Dana joined us as a shelver, and
Crystal, David, Roberta, and Mary Beth
also replaced outgoing staff.

The Library’s Social Worker
Staff member Maria Robles has her
master’s degree in school social work
and works full-time as a social worker in
Addison School District 4. Through the
library, she provides social service support. These services include: assistance
with school forms, assistance obtaining medical insurance for children,
support for homelessness, mental
health referrals, financial referrals,
food pantry referrals, and much more.

Tenants, Know Your Rights
Wed., Mar. 23, 5–6. Come learn about
your rights as a tenant and rights as a
